Pù Luông is located in the western part of Thanh Hóa province, covering an area of over 17,000 hectares, within the districts of Bá Thước and Quan Hóa, bordering the Vietnam-Laos border. The climate in the mountainous region of Pù Luông is cool, and the vast terraced rice fields are breathtakingly beautiful, especially during the rice harvest season. This captivating scenery attracts many photographers and tourists who come to "hunt for the golden season".

The golden rice fields, shrouded in mist and clouds at the foot of Pu Luong mountain, were captured by photographer Nguyen Trong Cung on the morning of June 2nd. Cung said that on his third visit to Pu Luong during the rice harvest season, he still felt the same fascination as the first time.

"The rice harvest season in Pu Luong is just as beautiful as in the northern mountainous regions," Cung said.

Pù Luông is one of the few places where two rice crops can be grown on terraced fields. The golden season here usually takes place in two cycles per year, the first from the end of May to mid-June and the second from the end of September to the beginning of October.

Nestled in valleys, the terraced rice fields in this region have a gentler slope compared to those in the northern highlands. The fields are close together, easily accessible within a 3-4km radius, making them convenient for tourists to visit and take photos.

Golden rice paddies stretch along the road in Bản Đôn village.

Cung said that using a motorbike allows him to proactively stop at any point along the way to capture beautiful photos.

Bản Đôn is being developed into a community-based tourism village. It still retains the traditional culture of the Thái ethnic group, with traditional wooden stilt houses nestled among terraced rice fields that curve like golden silk ribbons embracing the village. It also boasts numerous resorts and homestays.

In the heart of Buon Don, the S-shaped road (pictured) is a popular check-in spot for tourists.

Currently, the rice fields in Pu Luong have turned yellow, and some fields are being harvested by the villagers. The rice is bundled into small bunches and spread out on the stubble to dry in the dew. Young men in the village will be responsible for carrying the rice home.

People sat and rested after harvesting the rice, chatting and laughing merrily.

The male tourist was delighted by the peaceful rural scenery and the aroma of ripening rice.

The golden season "flows" through the valleys, illuminating the entire sky.

The 34-year-old photographer noted that the "golden season" doesn't last long, usually only 2 to 3 weeks. This year's rice harvest came early and is expected to end by the end of June.

Cung suggested that before going to Pu Luong, you should check the availability of accommodation, ask local people, or consult online groups to find out when the rice ripens in each commune and when the harvest takes place.

Cung said that ripe rice fields are usually most beautiful at sunrise or just before sunset.

Besides hunting for ripe rice, Mr. Cung visited Hieu Waterfall (pictured) in the afternoon on the last day of his trip. This is home to the Thai ethnic minority, with hundreds of houses lining both sides of the stream flowing from the peak of Pu Luong. The waterfall flows over not-too-steep rocky rapids for 800 meters, with a water depth of just over 1 meter and a fine sandy bottom. Visitors can swim and soak in the clear water, enjoy local specialties, and spend the night at the waterfall.
