According to DW channel, fighting poverty and overcoming the consequences of climate change are the two focuses of the New Financial Pact Conference for the world , taking place on June 22 and 23 in Paris (France).

More than 300 delegates, including more than 40 heads of state and many leaders of organizations around the world, attended the conference.

Many Western news agencies said that the conference in Paris aims to reform the current global financial structure because it is no longer suitable for the huge needs of poor countries in the context of increasingly severe weather phenomena due to climate change.

France has collaborated with Barbados in the Caribbean to propose solutions to help developing countries escape poverty, reduce dependence on fossil fuels, and contribute to protecting nature, helping these countries face natural disasters more effectively. France and the US have called for the right of developing countries to “renegotiate with creditors”…

However, observers say the main purpose of the conference in Paris is for “rich countries” to regain confidence in “poor countries” while the influence of the US and the West is shrinking in most regions once considered “backyards” - from Africa, to Latin America, the Middle East down to the South Pacific .

Rich countries once pledged to provide 100 billion USD each year to help developing countries overcome the consequences of climate change. But so far, those have remained just promises. Meanwhile, since the conflict broke out in Ukraine, the West has quickly and easily mobilized hundreds of billions of USD in military aid for Kiev, humanitarian aid... Such eagerness easily makes people think about Western bias.

The day before the conference, the Paris Club, an informal group of creditors, reached a consensus to restructure the debt of Zambia and Sri Lanka. Many experts cautioned that this symbolic move and the Paris conference are unlikely to appease the discontent of poor countries, at least in the short term.
