(CLO) According to Russia's TASS news agency, US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen said the Washington administration does not rule out the possibility of applying sanctions against Chinese banks.

According to TASS, in an interview, Ms. Yellen said: "We do not rule out the possibility of sanctioning a specific bank if there is sufficient evidence to apply sanctions."

Ms Yellen also revealed that warnings to major Chinese banks had had some effect, making them “very wary” of sanctions that could cut them off from US dollar transactions.

Ms. Yellen stressed that Chinese authorities understand that imposing sanctions would be a serious threat to their interests.

However, Ms. Yellen also affirmed that Washington and Beijing have a channel of communication to discuss specific concerns, and in some cases, these discussions may be enough to resolve the issue.
