Male student of Pedagogical University suddenly became famous after just one afternoon

After the final night of the "Elegant Student" contest recently took place, social networks were abuzz with the image of a handsome male student who looks like a Korean movie actor. I am Nguyen Tung Son, a 4th year student, Faculty of Literature, Hanoi National University of Education.

Not only did he win the first runner-up title in the "Elegant Student" contest in 2024, the young man also attracted a lot of attention from netizens thanks to his high academic achievements.

In the "Elegant Student" final night, Son went through 5 competitions that required careful preparation and flexible improvisation including: Ensemble performance and greeting; Sportswear performance; Ao Dai performance; Evening gown performance and behavioral competition.

With an impressive performance, along with an excellent "hau dong" performance in the final round, Tung Son won 1st runner-up, becoming one of three male students to achieve the highest achievement, alongside King Lam Quoc Dung (Hanoi University of Science and Technology) and 2nd runner-up Dinh Van Hung ( Da Nang University of Architecture).

Sharing with Dan Tri reporter, the male student said that normally he plays social networks and has a certain number of followers, but after just one afternoon, the number of followers on social network accounts increased dramatically, and images of him participating in the contest were posted all over the internet.

"I was quite surprised and a little worried. I didn't think I would get so much attention," Son said.

It is known that not only does he have a "male god" appearance, Tung Son has a GPA of 3.21, a training score of 83, and is excellent. He also actively participates in activities, teaches extra classes, works as an MC and a photo model.

"Two years ago, I was a fan of the "Elegant Student" contest. At that time, I spent time watching it but did not register for the contest because I felt it was not ripe yet.

This year, I am ready to participate to learn, seek opportunities and have the luck to shine. I think, this is not simply a beauty contest, there is also beauty of mind and soul.

I am not the most beautiful person in the contest, nor the best. There are many students in my department who are good and excellent in many fields. I think what makes me stand out is my enthusiasm and ideals to inspire young people," the male student shared.

Tell a personal story to inspire

Son was born and raised in Thanh Chuong, Nghe An. Son was inspired to become a "literature teacher" by his father - an elementary school teacher.

In 2018, Son won third prize in the Vi Giam folk song contest of Thanh Chuong District. He is also the Head of the Communications and Broadcasting Department at Nguyen Canh Chan High School (Thanh Chuong, Nghe An).

In the 2020-2021 school year, Son won the title of "3 Good Students" at the Nghe An Provincial level. The male student confided that he used to be a very shy person, facing a lot of pressure when thinking that as a boy pursuing literature would not be supported by many people, in the future he would only write but not be able to do "big things"...

The thoughts that kept going around in his head made the journey to realize his dream of becoming a literature teacher since he was a child more difficult.

"Referring to the period of 9th and 10th grade, I still feel scared because I suffered from depression, had symptoms of biting my nails until they bled, biting my lips, closing the door and talking to myself...

With the encouragement of teachers and family, I gradually overcame my inferiority complex," the male student recalled.

By grade 12, Son was the only student of Nguyen Canh Chan High School to win two provincial excellent student awards at the same time, including third prize in literature and consolation prize in history, and was admitted directly to Hanoi Pedagogical University.

After a short time studying at Hanoi National University of Education, outside of school hours, Son opened a test preparation class and was affectionately called by his students: "Gen Z teacher".

Son's life story was brought to the stage of the recent "Elegant Student" contest and was highly appreciated by the judges.

"For me, high school is the motivation to be more determined to become a literature teacher. Even though there are many jobs that make quick money, for me, teaching is still a noble profession.

Every day that passes, I can sow green seeds, give knowledge and also convey past experiences to young people," the male student said.

Difficulty makes me change

Sharing the secret of teaching and being an MC while still achieving good academic results, Son said that the entrance exam to Hanoi Pedagogical University was difficult, and studying literature was even more difficult. But the difficulty made him change.

In the early years, I had to learn from many seniors to find the right method. Outside of school hours, I studied by myself by drawing mind maps, systematizing knowledge, and searching for more documents to analyze problems best.

"After winning the contest, I received many invitations and opportunities to work in the arts, but I will work in both fields at the same time and definitely will not give up teaching," the male student affirmed.

Commenting on the multi-talented student Nguyen Tung Son, Associate Professor Dr. Dang Thu Thuy, lecturer of the Faculty of Literature, Hanoi National University of Education, said that Son is a hard-working, serious, modest, and somewhat quiet student.

However, in extracurricular activities and professional training of the department, Son showed himself to be very enthusiastic and active. On stage, Son revealed many qualities, promoted his strengths, and was very bright on stage.

"I taught Son from the beginning, but it wasn't until the end of the semester that I really saw how impressive he was. Through the competition, I gained more perspective on my students.

When he became a little famous, I both encouraged and reminded Son: "Calmly accept the good news but don't neglect your main job, consider it as motivation to become more mature," Associate Professor Thuy said.
