Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Phuc - Vice Chairman of Lam Dong Provincial People's Committee said that the province is facing a big challenge from domestic waste. |
Waste not only puts pressure on treatment infrastructure but also poses a potential risk to public health, ecological landscape and sustainable development if not well managed. “Therefore, today's workshop is organized with the aim of sharing information, assessing the current status of waste collection and treatment in the locality; receiving opinions and solutions from experts and scientists inside and outside the province; Connecting the government - businesses - scientists, thereby proposing orientations and models suitable to the actual conditions of the province", said Mr. Phuc.
According to the Department of Agriculture and Environment, the total amount of solid waste generated in Lam Dong province is about 398,668 tons/year, equivalent to 1,092.3 tons/day. According to survey data, the current collection rate in urban areas is on average 96% (an increase of 8% compared to 2021) and in rural areas is about 80% (an increase of 13% compared to 2021).

Domestic waste in Lam Dong is mainly treated by landfill method. |
Lam Dong Department of Agriculture and Environment also frankly acknowledged that the rate of collected and treated domestic waste in the area is still low compared to the set target; the collection, treatment and reduction of environmental pollution still faces many difficulties, although there are solutions but they have not been thoroughly resolved; Investment attraction in the field is still limited; The management of solid waste has not been applied according to the integrated management method, not paying attention to reduction solutions in daily life; the application of cleaner production solutions, waste audits... in production is still limited...
Another challenge is that waste treatment in Lam Dong is currently mainly done by sanitary landfill, some places still bury manually. Waste treatment plants such as Da Lat, Bao Loc, Di Linh, Don Duong... are still operating below their designed capacity. Outdated treatment technology, lack of classification at source, causing secondary pollution. In addition, the budget for investment in equipment for collecting and treating solid waste is still limited; the organization and implementation of approved solid waste management plans in localities is still slow, lacking resources for implementation...

Investment in solid waste treatment plants in Lam Dong is still limited. |
To solve the problem of solid waste treatment, in the coming time, Lam Dong province will focus on increasing the capacity to collect domestic waste for areas with high population growth and density, especially rural areas with strong urbanization trends.
Lam Dong will also continue to maintain and promote the attraction of socialization in the construction of combined domestic waste treatment areas, focusing on investment and attracting investment in advanced waste treatment technologies that combine many combined technologies in one project such as incineration, recovery, recycling, etc., avoiding old technologies such as landfill, especially open landfill that does not ensure hygiene and environmental standards.
"To solve the problem of solid waste treatment, it is necessary to synchronously deploy solutions on infrastructure, policies, propaganda and technology to improve the efficiency of waste management, towards the goal of "Green - Clean - Sustainable Lam Dong", Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Ngoc Phuc emphasized.
