The more they connect to the Internet, the more at risk of psychological stress when subjected to criticism, attacks, and bullying online.
Even comparing yourself to others makes the things you want to affirm more and more excessive than your own strength.
“There is a lot of pressure nowadays, but the ability of young people to cope with and endure stress is very poor. Children today are overprotected by their families, so they do not have the ability to persevere and overcome difficulties. Because of the lack of practical experience, when they encounter difficulties, they will think more about giving up and running away. And in some aspects, the ability to endure and recover from each failure of young people is also poor.
Therefore, the most important thing is that every young person needs to have the skills to take care of and "clean" their mental health. Very simple ways to eliminate stress hormones are to participate in sweat activities, maintain quality sleep to have a clearer mind and not be led by negative emotions.
You should participate in social activities, connect with many people to practice some problem-solving skills, reduce pressure or negative thoughts. Besides, you need to change your perception, think more positively. Every event always has good and bad sides, but don't just focus on the bad ones," said Associate Professor, Dr. Tran Thanh Nam.
Finding a way out for yourself is self-healing. So when we are still looking for healing from the outside, perhaps we have not found peace. Associate Professor, Dr. Tran Thanh Nam also expressed concern when the market is in chaos with healing services, showing a mixed combination of patchwork knowledge, such as spirituality, longevity energy, transformation, movement... According to Mr. Nam, on the Internet today, there is a situation where many people, after suffering psychological trauma, when taking a few more courses, discover that "healing" is a viable business environment. Therefore, they begin to strongly promote courses, build healing communities to develop business plans based on this "hot" keyword but do not have degrees or formal training.
Adding his perspective, Mr. Nam said that looking at the world, in many countries, in order to operate a healing service, coaches must be properly trained and the course must also be strictly censored. However, the awareness of Vietnamese people about mental health is still low.
Many people with mental health problems do not want to see a doctor and seek solutions elsewhere. Therefore, when looking for healing services, it is necessary to choose carefully, and go to reputable hospitals to avoid falling into the "trap" of people who do not have enough expertise but only rely on the keyword "healing" to make money.
Also from here, Associate Professor Dr. Tran Thanh Nam noted that, especially for young people, besides seeking healing classes, there is also a growing trend of spiritual healing through tarot card reading. This shows that the risk of stress and mental health damage is high, and the more confused and worried young people are, the more they tend to seek temporary certainty (through fortune telling and future predictions).
“Young people are often more influenced by social media than scientific information, so many may not know about psychological counseling services or practice skills to be able to confidently and flexibly respond to all uncertain situations. And when we become dependent on spiritual things, over time, it erodes our confidence in our own abilities, making us more anxious and depressed when faced with difficult situations.
Instead of persevering to overcome difficulties, many young people think that this year is "bad" and they need to sit still and do nothing. Gradually, life becomes more and more bound by forms of spiritual practice, always insecure and haunted if the inanimate card suddenly tells us that something bad will happen," said Mr. Nam.
Giving advice to young people to quickly escape negative thoughts to heal themselves, Associate Professor, Dr. Tran Thanh Nam said that cultivating an open mindset (growth mindset) is necessary; one should practice basic life skills such as communication, persuasion, digital skills, teamwork skills, and leadership to become a confident and self-directed person. Hopefully, the Gen Z generation of the near future will be strong, escaping the "dark depths" of negativity.
