According to Dr. Dinh Cong Khai, Deputy Director of Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics (UEH), Ho Chi Minh City currently has more than 300,000 registered businesses, of which small and medium enterprises account for over 98%, creating jobs for more than 60% of the workforce and contributing about 45% of the city's GRDP.

However, most businesses still have limited management capacity, lack innovation, have difficulty accessing capital and international integration capacity. The survey shows that about 55% of small and medium enterprises in Ho Chi Minh City still have limited management capacity, especially in the fields of finance, human resources, strategy and digital transformation.

UEH launched the UEH CEO Program with the goal of training 3,000 business leaders in the 2025 - 2030 period, promoting innovation, digital transformation and implementing Resolution 68.

“Many businesses have good products but fail because they lack a CEO team equipped with knowledge of market research, strategic planning, financial management and human resource management,” Mr. Dinh Cong Khai emphasized.

Prof. Dr. Nguyen Dong Phong, Chairman of the UEH Council for the 2020-2025 term, commented that in the context of Vietnam's deep economic integration and strong digital transformation, improving leadership and corporate governance capacity is a key factor for Vietnamese enterprises to develop sustainably and compete internationally.

On this basis, UEH has implemented the UEH CEO Program with the goal of training 3,000 CEOs, entrepreneurs and future leaders in the period 2025 - 2030. The program accompanies the Project of 10,000 CEOs according to Resolution 68-NQ/TW of the Politburo on private economic development, while contributing to realizing the orientation of making Ho Chi Minh City become the leading economic, financial and innovation center in the region.

“The program is designed according to three pillars: “Understanding yourself - Innovation - Breakthrough”, helping students develop strategic thinking, comprehensive management capacity and adaptability in the technology era. UEH CEO Program not only provides knowledge, but also inspires each leader to understand themselves, innovate their thinking and break through with the business”, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Dong Phong shared.

Mr. Nguyen Anh Duc, Deputy Director of the Department of Industry and Trade of Ho Chi Minh City, hopes that training thousands of CEOs with capacity and innovative thinking will create a great boost for the private economic sector.

The program is implemented according to a flexible partnership model, with lecturers including domestic and foreign academic experts, and accompanied by practical CEOs from leading corporations. The structure includes a starter module and 16 in-depth modules lasting 4 months. The target students are executives, functional leaders, start-up entrepreneurs, successor leaders in family businesses and state-owned enterprise managers.

Through application projects and an ecosystem connecting students - experts - businesses, the program expects 70% of students to successfully implement start-up projects or business restructuring projects, while forming a UEH CEO Alumni community to share experiences and cooperate for sustainable development.

Mr. Nguyen Anh Duc, Deputy Director of the Department of Industry and Trade of Ho Chi Minh City, said that the country currently has more than 900,000 enterprises, of which more than 30% are concentrated in Ho Chi Minh City. Training thousands of CEOs with capacity and innovative thinking will create a great boost for the private economic sector, which is an important growth driver of the city and the country.

According to Mr. Duc, this is a pioneering program with practical significance, contributing to concretizing the spirit of Resolution 68, promoting socio-economic development in Ho Chi Minh City. The goal of training 3,000 CEOs is just the beginning, the spreading value and practical impact of the program will certainly exceed this number.
