Capacity building for women in recycling waste collection

On the afternoon of June 12, in Tuy Hoa City, the Green Development Support Center (GreenHub) in collaboration with the Provincial Women's Union and the Department of Agriculture and Environment organized a workshop to share experiences and summarize the work package on Capacity Building and Cooperation of Non-Public Waste Collection Women Groups in Phu Yen. More than 100 delegates from clubs, women's recycling collection groups, and scrap purchasing facilities in the province attended.

According to GreenHub, the work package on Capacity Building and Cooperation of Non-Public Women Waste Collectors in Phu Yen has been implemented since November 2024. This work package has basically completed its planned activities and achieved some results and lessons learned.

GreenHub has coordinated with functional agencies and environmental experts to organize training for more than 150 women working in non-public waste collection and established 9 women's recycling collection network groups in Phu Yen; training on management, monitoring, evaluation and learning mechanisms to operate women's recycling collection clubs; training on capacity building, team organization and financial management for members of women's recycling collection clubs in the province; training on extended responsibility of producers and labor safety... GreenHub also supports T-shirts, protective jackets, rubber boots, protective gloves and issues membership cards and notebooks to members of women's recycling collection clubs.

At the workshop, representatives of the Women’s Unions of districts, towns and cities reported on the results of establishing and operating women’s clubs for collecting recyclable waste. The delegates shared the challenges, advantages and lessons learned from women’s clubs for collecting recyclable waste and from scrap collection facilities in the province…

According to GreenHub, the work package Capacity Building and Partnerships for Women Non-Public Waste Collectors in Phu Yen aims to improve the income and well-being of women non-public waste collectors by strengthening and diversifying their current activities with new skills, partnerships, support networks and connections. This work package also aims to enhance skills, expand networks and build partnerships for women non-public waste collectors. At the same time, strengthen capacity in effective waste collection, financial management and ensuring occupational safety through training activities, experience exchange between groups and policy dialogue.
