The event is within the framework of the National Program on energy saving and efficiency for the period 2019-2030. (VNEEP 3). In 2025, the national program marks the halfway point of program implementation, while contributing to the implementation of green growth and sustainable development goals and the commitment to achieve "zero" net emissions by 2050 that Vietnam made at the COP 26, COP 27 and COP 28 Conferences on climate change.
Speaking at the Conference, Mr. Dang Hai Dung, Deputy Director of the Department of Innovation, Green Transformation and Industrial Promotion, Ministry of Industry and Trade , emphasized: Energy saving and electricity saving are urgent and effective solutions in both the short and long term, helping to reduce pressure on energy supply, protect the environment and enhance national energy security, especially in the context of global energy supply with many potential instabilities.
Mr. Dang Hai Dung, Deputy Director of the Department of Innovation, Green Transformation and Industrial Promotion, Ministry of Industry and Trade, emphasized the role of energy saving and electricity saving.
According to a survey by the VNEEP 3 program, the potential for energy saving in Vietnam is still very large, especially in the industrial sector - which accounts for over 50% of the country's total energy consumption. If we only consider the more than 3,000 key energy-using facilities nationwide, with an electricity consumption of more than 80 billion kWh/year, just saving at least 2% of electricity each year will help save about 1.6 billion kWh, equivalent to more than 3,200 billion VND in annual electricity costs.
On June 18, 2025, the National Assembly officially passed the Law amending and supplementing a number of articles of the Law on Economical and Efficient Use of Energy, effective from January 1, 2026. The amended Law supplements many new regulations, affirming the important role of energy saving in socio -economic development and ensuring national energy security.
The training conference has the participation of experts and experienced speakers.
Contribute to changing awareness and forming energy saving habits in the community
The training conference was attended by experienced experts and speakers such as: Dr. Tran Ba Dung, former Head of the Professional Department, Vietnam Journalists Association ; Mr. Nguyen Dinh Hiep - Chairman of the Vietnam Association for Energy Conservation and Efficiency; Dr. Duong Trung Kien, Vice Principal of the University of Electricity (Ministry of Industry and Trade); Ms. Le Thi Thuy Lan, Head of the Department of Environment and Sustainable Development - Vietnam Electricity Group (EVN).
During the training, reporters and editors were updated with new policies and laws on energy saving. The organizers also shared an overview of the results of the implementation of the VNEEP 3 program over the past time; at the same time, they exchanged journalistic skills in the "dry - difficult - miserable" energy field, including how to exploit and use technical terms, build stories and new perspectives to approach readers.
Through the program, the Ministry of Industry and Trade expects that the team of reporters and editors will become strong communication bridges, bringing official, scientific and close information on energy saving and efficiency to the business community, people and socio-political organizations, contributing to changing awareness, forming energy saving habits, contributing to reducing greenhouse gas emissions, ensuring national energy security.
According to a survey by the National Program on Energy Saving and Efficiency for the 2019-2030 period, our country's energy saving potential is still very large, especially in the industrial sector, which accounts for over 50% of total national energy consumption, the energy saving potential can reach 20-30%.
Currently, the country has over 3,000 key energy-using facilities, with a total electricity consumption of over 80 billion kWh/year.
If these businesses alone join hands to save at least 2% of electricity consumption per year, we will save an average of 1.6 billion kWh per year, equivalent to saving more than 3,200 billion VND in electricity bills. If all 30 million electricity customers practice saving electricity, it will contribute significantly to improving the competitiveness of the economy and ensuring national energy security.
