(CLO) In order for journalism activities to "take a shortcut" in the digital age and create a breakthrough in the development process, since October 2020, Vietnam Economic Magazine has focused on implementing digital governance and applying digital technology, focusing on applying AI technology to all activities.

Create a completely new journalistic product

After transforming into a Magazine, the Editorial Board of Vietnam Economic Magazine has consolidated departments in the content production process, from reporters to editors, based on new needs and development directions.

To produce timely and quality multimedia content, the Magazine has established a Multimedia Production Center, invested in technical equipment and human resources to coordinate the production of multimedia content for Vietnam Economic Magazine, VnEconomy Electronic Magazine, as well as coordinate the production of content for the Magazine's annual events.

The magazine has invested in a new CMS system, creating a modern technical platform to be able to publish multimedia content, investing in building a complete production system including a Multimedia Content Production Center, studio, hall for conferences, seminars, especially investing in the Gen AI platform...

Thanks to AI applications, Vietnam Economic Times Magazine has changed from monthly publication to weekly since April 2024. In which, using the Vietnamese-English AI translation tool from Askonomy Brain helps control all spelling errors. Currently, the En.vneconomy column is implemented on Vneconomy e-Magazine, closely connecting content with VnEconomy, updating more closely Vietnam's economic information for international readers.

Journalist Chu Van Lam, Permanent Vice President of the Vietnam Economic Science Association, Editor-in-Chief of Vietnam Economic Magazine, said, “In the context of the strong explosion of AI technology, Vietnam Economic Magazine/VnEconomy has determined to launch the AI ​​chatbot “Askonomy economic information assistant”. Developed in collaboration with a team of artificial intelligence engineers, Askonomy was first launched in March 2023, becoming one of the pioneering chatbots in the field of economics and finance not only in Vietnam but also in the world”.

Askonomy is a virtual assistant built on a large language model. Askonomy 2024 version is a Vietnamese product, with source code and data completely located on domestic servers.

Askonomy’s target users are officials, assistants, business people, entrepreneurs, policy makers, students, etc. who are interested in the Vietnamese economy. Because it supports both Vietnamese and English, foreign investors can also use this chatbot as a reference information channel.

Users who pay to read the newspaper will be granted access to VnEconomy's chatbot. When asked a question, the chatbot will give a specific answer, based on the data content source of articles published in the magazine.

This is considered an information assistant, a completely new press product, a breakthrough in the media industry. This method helps readers switch from reading newspapers to actively asking questions to update information.

Technology, specialized data, high security

In fact, in Vietnam, the use of AI by press agencies has only stopped at a simple level, such as supporting the production of multimedia press works; Automatic spelling check; Copyright protection or simply converting text to speech. Many online newspapers have applied AI to news reading voices by region or gender.

As for the economic information assistant Askonomy of Vietnam Economic Magazine, it has its own distinct advantages. This language model is many times smaller than ChatGPT and can be deployed on a low-configuration server, fine-tuned with specialized technology and data... In particular, the server is located in Vietnam to completely ensure the security and privacy of users.
