According to statistics, each year at the Department of Urology, Le Van Thinh Hospital receives about 2,000 cases of urinary stones, of which 50-60% of patients require surgical intervention. This rate shows that the demand for high-tech treatment is increasing, requiring the hospital to constantly innovate and invest in improving professional capacity.
Dr. Tran Van Khanh, Director of Le Van Thinh Hospital, emphasized: “Urinary tract stones are one of the most common diseases in Vietnam and the region. The application of the new generation laser lithotripsy system is a necessary step, helping the hospital to treat more safely and effectively, shortening the time and minimizing complications for patients.”

On November 25, the modern laser lithotripsy system was officially put into operation. Mr. Ho Xuan Luong, 60 years old, Thu Duc was one of the first 5 patients to be treated with the new device. After the procedure, he shared: "I clearly felt the gentleness, less pain and quick recovery, the hospital's investment in such modern machinery is great, people can rest assured in their treatment." This is a concrete demonstration of the effectiveness of equipment innovation associated with improving the quality of service to the people.
The new system is equipped with synchronous equipment including ureteroscopy, renal pelvis endoscopy, flexible endoscopy, percutaneous nephroscopy and modern optical transmission systems, allowing the hospital to fully deploy today's advanced lithotripsy techniques.
Methods such as incisionless endoscopic ureteral lithotripsy, endoscopic renal lithotripsy using a flexible endoscope or percutaneous nephrolithotomy with a stone-free rate of up to 95% after one procedure are all techniques being applied at leading urological centers in the country and internationally.
Currently, laser technology accounts for 70-80% of urinary stone intervention methods, confirming the superiority of minimally invasive techniques in treating this disease.

Le Van Thinh Hospital successfully deployed the laser lithotripsy system, not only improving treatment capacity but also contributing to the implementation of the city's health sector's policy on developing high technology at city-level hospitals, contributing to reducing the load on the end-line and improving the quality of health care for people.
Dr. Khanh affirmed: "We identify this as an important task to elevate the hospital, meeting the needs of people's health care in the new period. In the coming time, the hospital will continue to promote the spirit of solidarity, responsibility, and dedication, combining high technology with improving medical ethics."
The year 2025 marks a strong development step of Le Van Thinh Hospital in investing in modern equipment.
Before the laser lithotripsy system, the hospital has put into operation a new generation of gastrointestinal endoscopy system integrated with artificial intelligence (AI) and nasal endoscopy technique, contributing to early detection and effective treatment of many gastrointestinal diseases.
It is expected that in early December 2025, the hospital will continue to launch an interventional ultrasound unit equipped with an advanced ultrasound system applying AI, opening up a new direction of development in imaging diagnosis and minimally invasive treatment.
These results have shown a clear direction for comprehensive modernization to improve the quality of medical examination and treatment as well as concretize the patient-centered policy of the health sector.
This is also a vivid demonstration of the spirit of innovation and responsibility for public health, a key factor in the healthcare development strategy in Ho Chi Minh City.
In the coming time, Le Van Thinh Hospital will continue to closely follow the direction of the City Department of Health, promote the application of high technology, strengthen quality management associated with building a civilized and modern hospital environment, contributing to strengthening people's trust in the public health system.
