The charm of old houses

Located in Phu Hoa hamlet, Dong Hoa Hiep commune, Cai Be district, Tien Giang province, Ong Kiet's ancient house is one of the most beautiful houses in Dong Hoa Hiep ancient village and is known as one of the "nine great beautiful houses" in Vietnam.

The house embodies the distinctive architecture of the Southwestern region of Vietnam. Under the skillful hands of ancient artisans, each yin-yang roof tile and each wooden column is meticulously arranged, forming a solid and harmonious architectural whole.

For nearly two centuries, the house has retained its ancient style with a traditional T-shaped design. In 2004, it was recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The roof is covered with yin-yang tiles, alternating one row facing down and one row facing up. The patterns on the rafters, columns, and altar are elaborately carved. The household items are all precious antiques, such as oil lamps, tea sets, hanging chandeliers, and cupboards, evoking memories of the past. The tables and beds are made of solid pieces of precious wood, imbued with the patina of time. The furniture sets are also meticulously crafted with beautiful patterns. The couplets, wall paintings, and horizontal plaques are all exquisitely inlaid with mother-of-pearl.

The household items are all valuable antiques. The oil lamp, tea set, chandelier, cupboard... evoke memories from nearly two centuries ago.

Sunlight streams through the wooden bars, illuminating the tiled floor and creating a scene that is both rustic and serene, like an oil painting.

An exquisitely carved wooden bench set, along with an antique blue-glazed tea set, adds a touch of elegance to a traditional Southern Vietnamese reception area.

The tables and beds are all made from solid pieces of precious wood, imbued with the patina of time. The furniture sets are also meticulously crafted, with beautiful patterns.
