Newcastle are determined to keep Alexander Isak despite interest from Liverpool. |
According to The Times , Newcastle's owners, the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund (PIF), have taken a firm stance that they will not let Isak leave the club. This decision reflects Newcastle's ambition to build a title-winning squad, with Isak at the core.
Last season, the Swedish striker scored 27 goals in all competitions, including the winner in the League Cup final, helping Newcastle win their first title in decades.
Previously, the Magpies were said to have received a £120 million offer from Liverpool for Isak. This figure could break the all-time transfer record in English football, but Newcastle insisted the club would do everything possible to keep Isak.
Meanwhile, Liverpool believe Isak is also ready to move to Anfield, with the 25-year-old frustrated that the club have failed to deliver on a promise to offer him a new, better-paid contract.
Isak has yet to sign a new contract with the Magpies, amid growing speculation linking him with a move to Liverpool. The former Real Sociedad striker is currently contracted to Newcastle until 2028.
Liverpool's offer of around £120m has left Isak hesitant. However, the Anfield team are also planning to recruit Hugo Ekitike in case Isak cannot leave Newcastle.
