Recently, in an interview with Chosun, CEO Min Hee Jin of ADOR company revealed that the 5 members of NewJeans (Minji, Hanni, Danielle, Haerin, Hyein) are preparing for a world tour next year, with the goal of expanding their concert scope beyond Korea and Japan to other countries.
Min Hee Jin shared, “I wanted to bring a new feeling to the audience, including those who couldn’t attend the concert, by respecting the cultural aspects of each country we performed in, and I’m glad that it came true.
For the upcoming world tour scheduled for next year, we are designing special stages that suit the unique characteristics of each country and city, so we ask for your continued interest and support.”
At the end of June, Kpop girl group NewJeans successfully held two Japanese fan meetings “Bunnies Camp 2024” at Tokyo Dome, with 91,200 attendees.
Tokyo Dome is a “dream stage” for artists, including top Japanese stars. According to Korean media, NewJeans made history by becoming the fastest K-pop artist to perform on the Tokyo Dome stage since their debut, after only 1 year and 11 months.
Billboard commented that NewJeans had a different fan meeting when the group mainly focused on music with performances throughout, instead of playing games and interacting like other Kpop fan meetings.
“NewJeans' event chose to forgo those (other activities) for a more musical gathering, based on the concept of entertaining fans through songs,” Billboard wrote.
Japanese media such as Sponichi, Sports Hochi and Sankei Sports covered NewJeans' performance at Tokyo Dome with special editions.
NewJeans' debut in Japan with the EP "Supernatural" and fan meeting "Bunnies Camp 2024" created a big buzz, when a NewJeans merchandise store opened in Shibuya on June 26 attracted about 600 people in line.
KoreaTimes commented that NewJeans is the leading star of the 4th generation of Kpop in Japan. Following in the footsteps of BoA and TVXQ (1st generation) - who ignited the Kpop fever in the early 2000s; Girls' Generation and KARA (2nd generation); BTS and TWICE (3rd generation)... NewJeans has expanded its influence.
They have a large fan base among teens and 20-somethings. However, the group's retro-style music has even attracted fans in their 40s and above, affectionately known as the “NewJeans Ojisan” (Japanese for uncle) fandom.
Japanese music producer Motohiko Tokuriki noted that NewJeans' music sounds similar to Western songs, captivating middle-aged men who previously did not listen to K-pop.
At the Tokyo Dome stage, member Hanni also received many compliments when she perfectly performed the famous song "Aoi Sangoshou" (1980) by legendary Japanese singer Seiko Matsuda.
According to an official from management company ADOR, many audiences in their 40s and 50s attended NewJeans' fan meeting at Tokyo Dome.
