On May 3, Avia-pro posted a video recording a Russian fighter jet dropping a FAB-500M-62 concrete-piercing bomb on a Ukrainian military base in Kherson.

Accordingly, a violent explosion was recorded after the Russian FAB-500 bomb hit the target. According to Avia-pro , the base was an ammunition depot and a large Ukrainian military concentration point in Kherson. The entire base was flattened after the explosion. Some military experts estimate that the Ukrainian army may have lost 100-150 tons of ammunition and weapons after the Russian raids in Kherson.
Recently, the Russian army has continuously used FAB-500 concrete-piercing bombs to attack Ukrainian military positions. According to observers, the use of FAB-500 bombs is to maintain the intensity and power of attacks from the Russian army, in the context of the country's high-precision cruise missile stockpile being exhausted.
However, some experts believe that the use of precision-strike bombs like the FAB-500 was carefully calculated by the Russian military to attack and penetrate Ukraine's strong fortifications.
On April 26, Russian warplanes dropped two FAB-500 bombs on the Ukrainian army landing position on the left bank of the Dnipro River in Kherson. After this attack, the entire Ukrainian landing group and its combat equipment were destroyed. Kiev's river crossing point was flattened, thereby eliminating the risk of similar landings in the future.
Regarding the FAB-500M-62, designed as a fragmentation bomb, this weapon is often used to attack and destroy military infrastructure, railway transit points, light armored equipment and enemy manpower.
With the ability to be integrated on many different types of aircraft such as Su-27, Su-30, Su-34, Su-24 or MiG-29, the FAB-500M-62 bomb can fly about 15km after being dropped from an altitude of 570-12,000m. The speed when hitting the ground of the FAB-500M-62 bomb is up to 1,900km/h, allowing it to increase its penetrating power from kinetic energy when colliding with the target.

Kherson is one of four provinces in eastern and southern Ukraine that joined Russia in October 2022. However, by early November, the Russian army had to withdraw from the city of Kherson in this southern Ukrainian province to preserve its forces against the relentless attacks from Kiev.
Following the decision to withdraw, the Russian army has urgently built a defense line on the left bank of the Dnipro River with the participation of many elite paratroopers and national guards units. This defense line will be Russia's first stop to prevent President Volodymyr Zelensky's army from advancing deeper into the Crimean peninsula in southern Ukraine.
