Ukrainian bloggers say Kiev forces have relinquished control of the village of Urozhaine, southwest of the Russian-held city of Donetsk. The Ukrainian military says fighting is still ongoing in the area.
"Thanks to successful actions, the 'eastern' group of forces has taken control of the Urozhaine locality in the Donetsk region... and is carrying out mine clearance and demining operations," the Russian Defense Ministry said.

The village was under Russian control since the start of the war in February 2022, but Ukraine recaptured the settlement near the Mokri Yaly River in July 2023. The operation is part of a Ukrainian counteroffensive in southern and eastern regions along a 1,000-km frontline that has made only limited progress.
In its report on the morning of July 14, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine said only that Russia had carried out 18 attacks on Urozhaine and other nearby localities. It did not mention the village in its subsequent report later in the afternoon.
DeepState, a popular Ukrainian military blog, reported on the Urozhaine incident on July 14, saying that Russian forces launched “massive attacks south of the village,” describing the loss as a “collapse of defense” and its cause requiring investigation.
