Criminals impersonate reputable gold trading businesses to commit fraud.
BIDV, SHB , MBBank have just warned customers to be wary of tricks to fake business information to appropriate assets.
The trick of fraudsters is to fake websites, fanpages, and social network accounts with domain names, interfaces, and logos identical to reputable gold business brands, making it easy for users to mistake them for the official site.
After building trust, the subjects spread fake news about gold/silver prices, advertised promotions, high discounts, and attractive rewards.
Taking advantage of people's lack of vigilance, these subjects invite online investment, promising high profits and daily/weekly interest payments, but in reality, this is a form of fraud with signs of multi-level marketing or money appropriation.
Providing more information about the criminals' tricks, BIDV said that the criminals also invited online gold trading, committed high profits, and paid interest daily or weekly to commit illegal acts.
Criminals also send text messages and emails impersonating businesses or gold/silver company leaders to announce winning prizes and collect customer and citizen data to commit fraud.
Buy and sell gold only at licensed establishments.
To protect people's assets and rights, BIDV recommends that customers always carefully check websites, fanpages, links, and verify business information through official channels.
Only conduct direct buying and selling at licensed gold trading establishments with officers and staff at the counter, a sign clearly stating "Location licensed by the State Bank to trade in buying and selling gold bars" and a copy of the license publicly displayed in an easily observable place.
Never provide personal information, accounts, or OTP codes to anyone, including those claiming to be employees of a company or bank.
SHB representative also warned customers to absolutely not provide personal information, not to trade gold/silver through unofficial channels, and to be cautious of any invitations to invest with high profits.
Do not perform any requests (access strange links, install strange applications, transfer money, top up cards, withdraw money...) from suspicious subjects.
Customers should only buy and sell gold bars directly at official locations licensed by the State. Absolutely do not trade through intermediaries of unknown origin.
"Any negligence or subjectivity can create opportunities for criminals to take advantage and appropriate property," the SHB representative emphasized.
When detecting signs of fraud or suspecting property appropriation, customers should immediately contact the nearest police agency or report to the hotline or nearest bank branch for timely support.
