Construction Industry Top 200+ in the world (QS), Asian champion student

The 2023 IDEERS Asia-Pacific Championship Cup in Taiwan has just been achieved, along with many regular awards at the National Architecture Student Festivals or the Loa Thanh Award, Duy Tan University further affirms that the training and scientific research activities in the field of Architecture and Construction of the school have been achieving the expected results. These results are also the premise to bring the field of Architecture - Construction of Duy Tan University to the Top 201-230 in the world according to QS 2023.

In this year's Introducing and Demonstrating Earthquake Engineering Research In School (IDEERS) competition, organized by the Taiwan Earthquake Engineering Research Center, Duy Tan students won against many strong teams from Singapore, Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong... through two excellent models:

• First Prize and Championship Cup : DTU Team, consisting of 3 members: Le Quoc Toan, Nguyen Thanh Quyen and Nguyen Hoang Long, with a house model 60 cm high (the Organizing Committee's requirement is not to exceed 75 cm), weighing 423 g and able to withstand earthquakes with ground acceleration of about 8 on the Richter scale.

• Third Prize : Team SET-DTU, consisting of 4 members: Phan Trong Tien, Cao Tien Giang, Nguyen Duc Manh, Le Huu Bang, with a house model 60 cm high, slightly heavier at 440 g and can also withstand earthquakes with ground acceleration of about 8 on the Richter scale.

This year, Vietnam has 3 participating teams (including 2 teams from Duy Tan University and 1 team from Hanoi University of Civil Engineering), competing with prestigious and famous universities in the world with extensive experience in earthquake research such as: Nanyang Technological University - Singapore, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, Taiwan University, Taiwan University of Science and Technology, Pusan ​​National University - Korea, Pukyong University - Korea, Keimyung University - Korea, INTI International University - Malaysia... Therefore, the results achieved are further proof of the effective training direction at Duy Tan University.

Students are trained to be able to build models with good load-bearing structures, using environmentally friendly materials or smart materials. In particular, many subjects in the training program provide in-depth knowledge of the behavior of structures under the impact of earthquake loads. With the reality of increasingly complex earthquakes causing great damage to people and property in the world, many governments, including Vietnam, have established strict regulations on seismic design for buildings. The training program of Construction and Architecture at Duy Tan University, following that trend, has changed and added many subjects related to this field, specifically: Structural dynamics, Earthquakes and earthquake-resistant design of buildings, High-rise building structures, Special building structures, CDIO project on building seismic-resistant structural models... Construction/Architecture subjects in the CSU standard program are also directly taught by senior lecturers from California State University at Fullerton and Cal Poly University at San Luis Obispo. This is also a highlight that helps DTU students improve their specialized English skills to acquire more advanced knowledge, and at the same time be able to read scientific research documents in English.

Therefore, Duy Tan students are always confident in participating in many major domestic and international competitions. Returning to the IDEERS 2023 competition, after the competition, Prof. Dr. Chung-Che Chou - Director of the Taiwan Earthquake Research Center, Head of the Organizing Committee, quickly interviewed the Duy Tan University team to find out why the team won so many high awards. He was very surprised to learn that Duy Tan University's equipment had not kept up with that of Singapore, Korea or Taiwan, but the two Duy Tan University teams with unique design ideas had surpassed teams from universities with better earthquake testing facilities in Asia - Pacific.
