Medical industry sets benchmark score record and is tightened by National Exam

SKĐS - The need to standardize medical training is becoming more urgent than ever, especially after the important affirmation from Permanent Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Hoa Binh: "Only medical schools can train doctors."

This orientation aims to tighten the quality of medical human resources, overcoming the long-standing shortcomings in the current training system. The fierce competition at the entrance of the medical industry in recent years has shown the necessity of this standardization.

Only near perfect scores have a chance.

Recent admissions have shown that the medical field remains fiercely competitive. To have a chance to be admitted to medical training programs at leading medical universities, candidates need to achieve impressive scores, ranging from 8 to 9.4 points per subject for the admission combination.

In the 2025 admissions that just ended, the gap in the standard scores for medical majors was clearly different, but remained at a record high at prestigious schools. The Military Medical Academy maintained the leading position with an absolute score of 30/30 points for an admission combination, applied to female candidates in the Northern region and only recruited 8 people.

The top medical schools in the country also have extremely high admission scores. Specifically, Hanoi Medical University has a admission score of 28.13 points; followed by Hanoi University of Medicine and Pharmacy - Hanoi National University (27.43 points); Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy (27.34 points). Other medical schools also maintain scores above 25. The high admission scores show that the medical industry is still one of the industries with the highest input quality in the country.

Comprehensive tightening

The tightening of quality is implemented comprehensively, starting with the training conditions according to the direction of the Government and the Ministry of Health on "Only medical schools are allowed to train doctors". This regulation is a fundamental solution to overcome the situation where many multidisciplinary universities, which do not meet clinical requirements, still open medical majors. Medical training schools must meet a strict system of conditions on lecturers, facilities, and most importantly, must have a practice hospital (teaching hospital) or sign a close cooperation agreement with a qualified hospital so that students can have full clinical practice.

Along with tightening input, the Law on Medical Examination and Treatment (amended) 2023 sets up a safety barrier at output through the National Professional Competency Assessment Exam organized by the National Medical Council.

According to the official explanation from the Ministry of Health about the Law, this mechanism is important in ensuring the quality of practitioners: "Organizing an exam to assess the capacity to practice medical examination and treatment is a fundamental solution, a safe barrier to protect people's health; at the same time, it is also a motivation for medical training institutions to improve the quality of training. According to regulations, a university degree is only a condition for taking the exam, not a license to practice."

The title of doctor is the first subject to be subject to competency assessment from January 1, 2027. This comprehensive tightening demonstrates the high determination of the health sector in improving the quality of human resources, better serving the work of public health care.
