Nghe An estimated damage of 846 billion VND due to storm No. 5

According to a quick report from the People's Committee of Nghe An province, storm No. 5 has caused significant damage in many areas.

Storm No. 5 caused widespread heavy rain, with rainfall ranging from 120 - 350mm, up to 473.4mm in some places. Strong winds of level 8 - 10, gusting to level 11 - 15 were recorded at many meteorological stations. This morning (August 26), the storm moved to Central Laos and weakened into a tropical depression.

Regarding the initial damage, the report said that 2 people were injured in Hung Chau and Quynh Mai communes. The whole province has 2,189 houses affected, of which 1,622 houses had their roofs blown off or were damaged; 462 houses were flooded and 105 houses had to be urgently evacuated.

The agricultural sector suffered heavy damage with 13,361.5 hectares of rice and more than 2,000 hectares of crops affected, nearly 420 hectares of traditional fish farming area damaged, along with 155 cattle and 250 poultry swept away.

Regarding traffic and electricity infrastructure, more than 2,000m of roads were damaged and eroded, 42 road points were blocked with a landslide volume of 5,050m3 . In addition, 678 electric poles were knocked down and broken, and 11,200m of electric wires were broken.

The report said that the total estimated damage caused by storm No. 5 in Nghe An was about 846 billion VND.

Faced with the above situation, the People's Committee of Nghe An province has proposed the Central Government to provide the first phase of support of 250 billion VND to urgently overcome the consequences, stabilize people's lives and soon restore production.

Response and recovery work is being resolutely implemented by all levels and sectors in the province under the direction of the Prime Minister , the Provincial Party Committee and the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee.
