According to Medical Xpress, scientists from several medical centers, Harvard Medical School and the Hinda and Arthur Marcus Center for Gerontology Research (USA) have proven that if you supplement enough of a group of compounds called flavonoids, you will have a chance to avoid debility in old age.

Frailty is a geriatric syndrome that affects 10–15% of older adults, leading to a higher risk of falls, fractures, disability, hospitalization, and premature death.
It was previously believed that older people needed adequate protein to prevent frailty. New research suggests that other foods may also contribute to this benefit, helping older people live longer and enjoy a more "youthful" old age with a higher quality of life.''
The study used data from 1,700 people over a 12-year period. Over the follow-up period, 13.2% developed dementia. But people who ate more foods containing flavonoids – a group of bioactive compounds that are good for health – had a significantly lower rate of developing dementia.
Research shows that for every 10 mg of flavonoids you consume per day, you can reduce your risk of frailty in old age by 20%.
The good news is that you can find it in many fruits. And you don’t need to eat a whole bowl of fruit if you choose the right ones: A medium-sized apple contains exactly 10 mg of flavonoids.
In addition, you can choose other flavonoid-rich fruits such as grapes, strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, cherries, grapefruit... Eating more onions and vegetables in main meals also helps supplement flavonoids.
