Research on commercial farming of sand sea cucumber (Holothuria scabra Jaeger 1833) in a multi-trophic recirculating system for high productivity suitable for Hai Phong conditions

On the morning of August 14, the Department of Science and Technology (KH&CN) of Hai Phong city held a meeting of the Advisory Council for selection to implement the city-level S&T task "Research on commercial farming of sand sea cucumber (Holothuria scabra Jaeger 1833) in a multi-trophic circulation system for high productivity suitable for Hai Phong conditions". The project is chaired by the Center for Marine Technology Research and the Do Son Oceanographic Museum.

At the Conference, the representative of the implementing unit reported the main contents, including: Survey and assessment of the current status to develop IMT-RAS technology (multi-trophic aquaculture technology combined with water treatment circulation) to raise sea cucumbers suitable for conditions in Hai Phong ; testing the selection of configuration and technical parameters of phototrophic, filter-feeding and sand sea cucumber farming modules; design, installation and completion of the IMT-RAS model to raise sand sea cucumbers with an area of ^300m2 .

After listening to the report, the Advisory Council suggested that the research team should edit and supplement the following contents: Edit the task name to suit the reality; supplement and adjust the report content; re-evaluate the current situation, complete technical solutions (light, temperature, pH, farming time, wastewater treatment, etc.); clarify the role of coordinating units; redefine the research object and supplement the scientific basis for planning farming areas and the reasons for choosing whiteleg shrimp to be raised in combination with sea cucumbers.

Concluding the Conference, the Council unanimously approved the topic and requested the research team to fully absorb the comments, complete the documents and implementation plan to soon put the IMT-RAS model of sand sea cucumber farming into practical testing, contributing to opening up a new development direction for aquaculture in Hai Phong./.
