Twenty English teams took to the field on the night of May 28 to determine which two more teams would join Southampton in being relegated, while in the top half of the rankings, although many positions were determined early, there were still some quiet races.
Fulham opened the scoring with a header from Kenny Tete
Man United needed a win against Fulham at Old Trafford to finish in the top three and the "Red Devils" completed the task, although it was not easy. Playing with the strongest lineup, Man United pressured their opponents from the start but surprisingly conceded the first goal when Fulham took a corner kick in the 19th minute. Willian crossed the ball accurately for Kenny Tete to head past goalkeeper De Gea.
Aleksandar Mitrovic missed penalties, played dirty and argued with opponents
Fulham had a chance to increase the gap, even win if Aleksandar Mitrovic scored a penalty in the 26th minute after Casemiro's foul. Luckily for Man United, goalkeeper De Gea successfully blocked the Serbian striker's penalty, rekindling hope for the "Red Devils".
Jadon Sancho and Bruno Fernandes score to help Man United win
Jadon Sancho scored in the 39th minute and Bruno Fernandes scored in the 55th minute, bringing a hard-fought 2-1 victory to the home team Man United. These three important points officially helped Man United finish in the Top 3 of the Premier League, ending a relatively eventful season for the "Red Devils" in which coach Erik ten Hag and his team finally completed their mission.
Coach Erik ten Hag brought Man United to the Top 3, won the League Cup and waited to compete for the FA Cup
Man United's victory made Newcastle's efforts incomplete, especially when this "new young master" could not take all 3 points from a Chelsea team that had lost motivation. Drawing 1-1 with Chelsea, Newcastle finished the season in fourth place, officially earning a ticket to the Champions League after many years of waiting.
Newcastle finished in 4th place
If Arsenal had the most exciting performance in the Top 4 with a 5-0 victory over Wolverhampton, the newly-crowned champions Man City were the most disappointing with a 0-1 loss to Brentford. It is also understandable that the reason for the defeat is because coach Pep Guardiola's team still has two important matches ahead - the FA Cup final and the Champions League final - and must rotate the squad to ensure the main players are in the best condition.
Arsenal won 5-0 against Wolverhampton
Liverpool and Southampton created the most goalscoring chase, although the 4-4 result did not change the fate of both sides: Liverpool tearfully accepted a Europa League spot while Southampton went back to the First Division next season with the lowest score of the tournament - 25 points. Similarly, Tottenham, despite their best efforts against Leeds United and winning 4-1, still could not enter the group of teams with tickets to the European Cup, even though they were only in the third-tier Conference League. Leeds United with this defeat also followed Southampton back to the First Division in the second-to-last position.
Tottenham send Leeds United back to the Championship
Leicester's efforts to find a 2-1 victory over West Ham were in vain when in the same match, Everton confidently defeated Bournemouth with Doucoure's "golden" goal to officially stay in the league.
