Lottery ticket seller sentenced to 20 years in prison for drug trafficking

On the afternoon of May 30, the People's Court of Bac Lieu province held a first-instance trial of the case of illegal transportation of narcotics online. The defendant is Vu Thi Kim Anh, 62 years old, residing in Tan Tao hamlet, Chau Hung town, Vinh Loi district.

Previously, on December 7, 2022, at Thao Lang Hamlet, Vinh Trach Commune, Bac Lieu City, the Drug Crime Police Department of Bac Lieu Provincial Police caught Vu Thi Kim Anh red-handed transporting drugs. Searching the subject, the police seized a white nylon bag with a red mouth band, inside were white crystals, suspected to be drugs. The forensic conclusion of the Criminal Technique Department of Bac Lieu Provincial Police determined that it was a drug; type methamphetamine, weighing 199.56099 grams.

During the investigation and at the trial, Vu Thi Kim Anh confessed that she worked as a lottery ticket seller in Bac Lieu city. From September 2022 to December 7, 2022, Kim Anh received drugs from Dung to transport to Truong a total of 5 times, each time she was paid 500,000 VND. The defendant did not know Truong's purpose but knew it was drugs.

On the day he was arrested by the police, the defendant drove a motorbike from his house (in Tan Tao hamlet, Chau Hung town, Vinh Loi district) to Vinh Tan commune (Vinh Chau town, Soc Trang province) to receive a bag of drugs and then drove back to Thao Lang hamlet (Vinh Trach commune, Bac Lieu city) where he was arrested with the evidence.

The defendant admitted to the crime and asked for leniency. The Trial Panel of the Provincial People's Court found Vu Thi Kim Anh guilty of "Illegal transportation of narcotics" as prescribed in Clause 4, Article 250 of the Penal Code; sentenced the defendant to 20 years in prison.
