Nearly 15 years of being attached to the traditional martial arts of the nation and consciously preserving the family tradition, up to now, many people know Ms. Tran Thi Loan, not only a martial artist but also an active and enthusiastic person of the traditional martial arts club of Uong Bi city, Quang Ninh province.

In 2004, Ms. Loan retired from the Uong Bi City Auto Repair Company. After retirement, she enthusiastically participated in the activities of the Elderly Association of Tre Mai area, Nam Khe ward, Uong Bi City as well as the local Elderly Associations. Coincidentally, one day, while taking her granddaughter to practice traditional martial arts, witnessing the martial artists practicing, Ms. Loan was fascinated and then became fascinated with this martial art...

Then, day by day, she practiced martial arts on her own and with the help of martial arts master Nguyen Van Canh, a member of the Uong Bi City traditional martial arts group. Over a year, Ms. Loan learned many martial arts lessons and skillfully performed many martial arts moves.

In 2014, Ms. Loan and many elderly women in the Elderly Association of Tre Mai area established the Elderly Traditional Martial Arts Club, under the Elderly Association of Nam Khe Ward. Since its establishment, the Elderly Traditional Martial Arts Club of Nam Khe Ward has become one of the playgrounds for those who love traditional martial arts, helping the elderly to exercise and enjoy their old age.

Every afternoon, the Tre Mai cultural house yard is bustling with the activities of the NCT Traditional Martial Arts Club. The powerful, beautiful punches and the loud, energetic shouts of the martial artists make the atmosphere of the training ground more exciting. The NCT Traditional Martial Arts Club now has more than 35 members, mainly NCT members in the area and ward.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Huyen, 67 years old, a member of the Nam Khe Ward Traditional Martial Arts Club for the Elderly, said: “Since Ms. Loan introduced me to traditional martial arts, I have found this martial art very suitable for me. Every day, almost every evening, I practice with the club members. Before, when I did not practice, I often had shoulder and neck pain, but after participating in the practice, I feel healthier and the shoulder and neck pain is gone.”

Ms. Loan said: “Traditional martial arts have many contents such as: Internal strength, external strength, boxing, self-defense... In each training session, I often select the martial arts content that is most suitable for the elderly class, so that the elderly can practice to ensure health and a refreshing spirit, bringing joy to life”.

With basic training methods, focusing on improving the health of the elderly in the locality, Ms. Loan has been and is contributing to preserving the traditional cultural beauty of the nation with a large number of elderly people; and moreover, the Nam Khe Ward Traditional Martial Arts Club is the core force for the area and the city to participate in provincial and regional tournaments.

The People's Committee of Nam Khe Ward and Uong Bi City are very interested in and create favorable conditions for the club to operate. In addition, the People's Committee of the ward also supports funding for each tournament organized by the city, and also encourages the club's spirit, thereby creating a comfortable mentality for the club and martial artists before participating in the tournaments.

Ms. Loan added: “For me, traditional martial arts has its own identity. In any period, any era, from the beginning to the present day, there are advantages and disadvantages. In addition, we are currently inheriting a technology and social network development that has promoted promotion, and spread the image of traditional martial arts not only domestically but also internationally . Traditional martial arts always have changes to adapt, so in my opinion, there will be no major difficulties. Traditional martial arts will find a way to stand firm, thanks to technology to spread more widely.”

It is known that Ms. Loan and the Nam Khe Ward Traditional Martial Arts Club have participated in dozens of competitions and won many high prizes such as: First Prize at the Traditional Martial Arts Festival of 9 provinces in the Red River Delta, First Prize at the Traditional Martial Arts Competition of Uong Bi City in 2023, 2024 and many other high prizes.
