The Intensive Care and Anti-Poison Department of Tuyen Quang General Hospital is treating a 29-year-old female patient from Tuyen Quang City who is allergic to cicadas. Previously, the patient had eaten cicadas fried with lemon leaves. Because the dish was delicious, she ate about 10 of them.

After eating, the patient experienced itching all over her body, accompanied by nausea and vomiting, rapid heartbeat, and difficulty breathing. She was immediately taken to the hospital by her family. The female patient said she had a history of allergy to silkworm pupae.
After 3 days of active treatment, the patient's health was stable, less itchy, no more nausea, and no more difficulty breathing.
Doctor Ma Thi Oanh, Department of Intensive Care - Anti-Poison, Tuyen Quang General Hospital, said that it is currently cicada season, so many people catch cicadas for food and drinking purposes. However, many people are allergic or eat cicadas containing parasites, which can lead to poisoning.
Some people who eat cicadas may have mild allergies such as hives and itching all over the body. In severe cases, the patient may have difficulty breathing, vomiting, convulsions, coma, which can lead to death if not treated promptly.
Doctors recommend that people with food allergies, especially seafood allergies, should be careful when eating cicadas.
