The Village Chief "lights the fire" for his homeland

In the borderland, in the middle of the wild mountains and forests of Khuoi Giao hamlet, Co Ba commune, there is a hamlet chief who is always loved and respected by the people for his dedication, responsibility and pioneering spirit in the local socio-economic development. That is Mr. Vay Van Hoa, Head of Khuoi Giao hamlet, a Nung ethnic, born in 1988.

In 2022, he was elected village head, and in 2023, he became a respected figure in the community. Mr. Hoa consistently affirmed his role as a "pioneer" in all endeavors, promoting the spirit of "actions speak louder than words," and actively mobilizing people to develop the economy and alleviate poverty.

Based on local realities, since 2011, Mr. Hoa has boldly introduced anise trees and mulberry trees for silkworm farming into his forest land. With foresight, he recognized that these two types of trees were suitable for the local climate and soil, providing both economic stability and increased income. By 2024, his family had planted over 10,000 anise trees and 15,000 mulberry trees, yielding approximately 600 liters of anise essential oil worth 200 million VND, and selling silkworm cocoons for 380 million VND; combined with raising pigs and chickens, this increased their total income to 500-600 million VND per year.

Not only did he enrich himself, Mr. Hoa also organized village meetings, disseminating information and guiding people on land improvement and securing loans to jointly implement the model of growing anise and raising silkworms. As a result, to date, the entire village has 90 households cultivating 245 hectares of anise trees and over 85.5 hectares of mulberry trees, bringing in over 6 billion VND in income annually for the whole village. On average, each household earns over 90 million VND, while poor households earn nearly 30 million VND per year, contributing to a 6% reduction in the number of poor households.

Furthermore, Mr. Hoa is also an exemplary official in building cultural life in the residential area. He actively encourages residents to comply with the Party's guidelines and policies, the laws of the State, protect the legitimate rights of the people, and prevent violations of the village's customs and regulations. As a result, each year, more than 80% of households achieve the title of "Culturally Advanced Family".

In 2024, under his leadership, he mobilized villagers to contribute labor and resources to build 250 meters of rural concrete road, contributing over 200 man-days of labor and more than 20 million VND to purchase materials. Faced with the lack of low-voltage electricity in the hamlet, he appealed to the people to donate approximately 90 million VND to bring electricity to their homes, ensuring 100% of households have access to electricity. He also pioneered in encouraging villagers to relocate livestock pens away from their houses, build hygienic toilets, and participate in movements such as "Day for the Poor" and "Vietnamese People Prioritize Using Vietnamese Goods."

The quiet but meaningful contributions of Mr. Vay Van Hoa have helped make Khuoi Giao hamlet a shining example in the new rural development movement, achieving the title of "Cultural Hamlet" for many consecutive years, and having a clean and strong Party branch. He himself has been honored with a Certificate of Commendation from the Provincial People's Committee, along with many certificates of merit from the district and commune.

Mr. Vay Van Hoa – the man who ignited the flame of hope, the one who inspired the entire community to develop together – truly deserves to be a shining example amidst the mountains and forests of his homeland.
