Nguyen Hong Nhung: 'My boyfriend soothed my pain when I got divorced'

Nguyen Hong Nhung said she is happy with her boyfriend - her soulmate of 30 years, after two failed marriages.

Hong Nhung returns to domestic audiences through the album Moc Vol.2 , released on March 22. On this occasion, she talks about her love life and work.

- Why have you been less active in music in Vietnam recently?

- I live in the US because I want my two children to have a good learning and training environment. My eldest son, Skyler, eight years old, has autism and therefore needs good conditions to develop.

My life is still very difficult, most of my time is spent taking care of the children, running shows on weekends. Some people suggested that I should bring my children back to my country to be closer to my family, to rely on them, but I think America is still better. No matter where I am, I still have to be with my children because only a mother can understand their psychology and needs.

Circumstances forced me to put the economy first, so sometimes I was lazy to produce products. Recently, when my colleagues and partners in Vietnam encouraged me, I arranged to return to carry out a few projects. The desire for music and the artistic soul in Nguyen Hong Nhung have never cooled or disappeared.

- What motivation helps you overcome difficulties?

- Besides my two children, my current boyfriend is my biggest motivation. We have known each other since we were young, studied music together, and have been together for over 30 years. We both loved each other but were not destined to be together. Until recently, after many changes in my personal life, I was lucky that he was still there watching over me, ready to open his arms when I was weak.

I am happy with my current relationship, feeling his love as if it had revived me. He came to soothe the loneliness and hurt in me after my broken marriage. Women have moods that can be sunny or rainy, to be happy you have to find someone who understands. My boyfriend gives me that feeling, so that every time I think about each other, I always feel worthy because I open my heart. I do not make him public because I want to respect him and at the same time protect the relationship from public opinion.

- What do you love about your boyfriend?

- To me, he is an intelligent and profound person. He studied music but did not pursue it professionally, now he is in business. My life has many low notes, when he came, with his inherent humorous personality, everything became cheerful.

We bonded thanks to understanding and great trust in each other. He not only respected my past but also wanted to understand me deeply, and from there, he had a way of behaving that made me feel loved - something I had not found in the person I was with before. When we understood that value, we overcame all temptations and accepted everything, even the ugliest things, about each other.

Our current happiness is a process of building, not a day or two. Before, I was not ready to reconcile because of the geographical distance, feeling inferior, being a single mother, not wanting to burden him. However, his perseverance surprised me. The more I avoided him, the more he sought me out, to prove his love, to build trust. For many years, he was willing to travel back and forth between the US and Vietnam to complete his work and nurture the relationship.

- How do you support her in taking care of her two children?

- I don't force a man to be responsible for his own children. I just let things be natural and observe how he treats the children.

- What lessons did you learn after the breakup to nurture your current love?

- In the past, I stumbled because of my big ego, recklessness, and thinking that I was famous, so I didn't deserve to suffer when conflicts arose. I was wrong in choosing the person to be with. In addition, my youth and shallow thinking, thinking that whatever comes, I just accept it instead of calculating, were also the reasons why I wasn't happy.

When I left the stage and returned to the image of a family woman, I realized that many things had to change - I had to slow down and think carefully about every problem.

Every path or step in life is chosen by oneself, if wrong then one must take responsibility, not blame fate or circumstances. Every day, I try to cultivate, change to mature.

I don't dare to say anything about the future, nor do I insist on having a wedding. For me, a solid foundation must lie deep within each person - that is the feeling of needing each other and letting things happen naturally. I have experienced a lot of pain and lost faith, so now I will not put my hopes up to avoid disappointment.

- How do you take care of your appearance at the age of 43?

- All women are afraid of aging, age increases day by day, the important thing is how to face it. Currently, my joy every day is taking care of my children, I don't have time for beauty or relaxation. What I want most right now is not for myself but for my two children to grow up, especially Skyler - that one day when I am old and weak, my children can take care of themselves.

I keep my energy and optimism by letting go of negative thoughts. When things went wrong, I used to be weak and pessimistic. But then I realized I still had a lot to worry about and was strong enough to move on.
