Former Deputy Prime Minister Trinh Dinh Dung and former Minister and Head of the Government Office Mai Tien Dung have been reprimanded by the Politburo.
At a meeting on the morning of January 27, the Party Central Committee issued a warning to the Party Committee of the Ministry of Industry and Trade for the 2016-2021 term and reprimanded the Party Committee of the same ministry for the 2021-2026 term. Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Do Thang Hai and former Deputy Minister Hoang Quoc Vuong were expelled from the Party.
According to the Politburo , the Secretariat, and the Party Committee of the Ministry of Industry and Trade for the 2016-2021 term, they seriously violated the principle of democratic centralism, Party regulations, State laws, and working regulations; they lacked responsibility and neglected leadership and guidance.
As a consequence, numerous violations and shortcomings have caused serious and difficult-to-rectify consequences; posing a significant risk of losses to state funds, investors, and consumers, and wasting social resources. Several criminal cases have occurred within the Ministry, with many officials violating the law and facing criminal, party, and administrative penalties, causing resentment among officials, party members, and the public, and negatively impacting the reputation of the party organization and state management agencies.
The Party Committee of the Ministry of Industry and Trade for the 2021-2026 term has been found to have violated the principle of democratic centralism, Party regulations, and State laws; failed to implement directives and decisions of competent authorities; lacked responsibility, and neglected leadership and guidance, leading to numerous violations and shortcomings.
The Party Committee of the Ministry of Industry and Trade in this term also issued and implemented a working regulation that violated the Politburo's regulations; issued a Resolution of the Party Committee that violated the working regulation; did not seriously implement the directives of the Politburo and the Prime Minister; allowed a criminal case to occur within the Ministry, with many officials and Party members violating the law, including a member of the Party Committee and a Deputy Minister who was prosecuted and temporarily detained.
Mr. Trinh Dinh Dung, while serving as a member of the Central Committee of the Party, a member of the Party Committee of the Government, and Deputy Prime Minister for the 2016-2021 term, and Mr. Mai Tien Dung, while serving as a member of the Central Committee of the Party, a member of the Party Committee of the Government, and Minister and Head of the Government Office, violated Party regulations, State laws, regulations on what Party members are not allowed to do, and the responsibility of setting an example, affecting the prestige of the Party organization and state management agencies.
In addition to violating Party regulations, State laws, and the rules that Party members are not allowed to break, Hoang Quoc Vuong, while serving as Secretary of the Party Committee of the Ministry of Industry and Trade and Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade, and Do Thang Hai, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade, also showed signs of ideological and political degradation, moral decay, and lifestyle deviations. These violations caused public outrage and severely damaged the reputation of the Party organization and state management agencies.
According to the Party Central Committee, Mr. Vuong's violations "caused very serious consequences, difficult to remedy, posing a huge risk of damage to state funds and assets, and wasting social resources"; while Mr. Hai's violations "caused very serious consequences".

Mr. Trinh Dinh Dung, 68 years old, is from Me Linh district, Hanoi. He holds a master's degree in economics and is a civil engineer. He was a member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam from the 10th to the 12th terms, and a National Assembly delegate in the 11th and 12th terms. He previously served as Chairman and Secretary of Vinh Phuc province, Deputy Minister, and then Minister of Construction.
In April 2016, he was approved by the National Assembly to be elected as Deputy Prime Minister and held this position for 5 years. He was in charge of the fields of industry, agriculture, trade, import and export, construction, transportation, resources and environment; foreign direct investment (FDI), Vietnamese investment abroad; energy security and energy saving; national key projects; economic zones, industrial parks, export processing zones... Mr. Dung was in charge of 5 ministries, including the Ministry of Industry and Trade.
