Nguyen Thi Oanh competes with 2,500 athletes at the Quang Tri Marathon 2024

On the afternoon of May 27, in Hanoi , Nong Nghiep Viet Nam Newspaper and the People's Committee of Quang Tri province held a press conference to inform about the Quang Tri Marathon 2024 - Journey to the Land of Fire . Notably, this race will have the participation of a pair of athletes from the Vietnam athletics team: Nguyen Thi Oanh and Nguyen Trung Cuong.

According to the organizers, the race will take place from June 15 to 16 in Dong Ha City and Quang Tri Town. This is an important event leading up to the 1st Peace Festival in 2024, which will be held for the first time in Quang Tri Province and in response to the 77th anniversary of War Invalids and Martyrs Day on July 27.

To date, the Quang Tri Marathon 2024 has attracted over 2,500 registered athletes, including 6 international athletes from Japan, Australia and India.

Sharing at the press conference, athlete Nguyen Thi Oanh said that the race took place in June in extremely hot weather. Each athlete participating in the race should practice very carefully to have the best physical condition to complete the registered race. Registering for a long race requires more physical preparation, which is the most important factor.

Athlete Nguyen Thi Oanh will participate in the 21 km distance in the Quang Tri Marathon 2024.

The golden girl of Vietnamese athletics also gave advice that each athlete participating in the race needs to learn and prepare basic knowledge to be able to handle problems when they occur. In particular, athletes should listen to their bodies to avoid exhaustion, leading to unwanted situations.

"I will participate in the longest leg of this race, to feel the footsteps on this longest race is an opportunity to return to the historical land of Quang Tri to spread the spirit of sports, exercise, improve health, and together remember and pay tribute to the heroic martyrs who fell for the independence and freedom of the nation," Nguyen Thi Oanh expressed.

According to the organizers, revenue from BIB sales at Quang Tri Marathon 2024 will be donated to the Quang Tri Province Gratitude Fund to help families of heroic martyrs, meritorious people, and families in difficult circumstances in the historic land of Quang Tri.

Mr. Hoang Nam, Vice Chairman of Quang Tri Provincial People's Committee, said that the race is an event expected to contribute to stimulating tourism, promoting the image, land, people, and landscapes of the " fire land " Quang Tri, attracting domestic and international tourists to visit and experience tourism products reminiscent of the old battlefield.

Editor-in-Chief of Vietnam Agriculture Newspaper Nguyen Ngoc Thach affirmed that Quang Tri Marathon 2024 - Journey to the Land of Fire is a sporting event aimed at paying tribute to heroic martyrs; reminding every athlete and tourist to always be grateful, remember and be proud of what our ancestors sacrificed to achieve today's independence and peace.

"Every step of the athletes is towards a common journey back to the source, contributing a small part to the Gratitude Fund, thereby spreading love and national pride," Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Thach shared at the press conference.

Quang Tri Marathon 2024 has 3 competing distances: 21 km, 10 km and 5 km. Of which, the 21 km distance has a special route starting from Dong Ha City and the destination is Quang Tri Citadel. The remaining two distances take place around Quang Tri Citadel. Of which, the maximum completion time of the 21 km distance is 3 hours 30 minutes; the 10 km distance is 1 hour 40 minutes and the 5 km distance is 1 hour 15 minutes.
