Open free Vietnamese language classes at Phat Tich Pagoda
As a Laotian of Vietnamese origin , with the blood of Lac Hong descendants, Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu Huyen loves everything about her homeland. She loves her homeland from the bamboo groves, rice plants, from the folk songs to her mother's lullabies... Ms. Thu Huyen always tells herself that Vietnamese must be her mother tongue as well as her children's and the next generations in her family in Laos. "As a Vietnamese mother, with children born, raised and studying in Laos, I am very worried that my children will not know Vietnamese and I have realized this in some overseas Vietnamese families here", Ms. Huyen shared. With the desire that Vietnamese children in Laos not only know how to speak Vietnamese well but also read and write Vietnamese well, Ms. Thu Huyen boldly asked for permission from Phat Tich Pagoda and the Vietnamese Association in Vientiane to open a free Vietnamese class at the Pagoda. Not only does Ms. Huyen teach free of charge to overseas Vietnamese children, her class also teaches Lao people who love and want to learn Vietnamese with 3 sessions a week.Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs , Chairwoman of the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese Le Thi Thu Hang presented a Certificate of Merit to Vietnamese Language Ambassador Nguyen Thi Thu Huyen (Laos).
Passionate about Vietnamese community events in Laos
In addition to actively teaching Vietnamese for free at Phat Tich Pagoda in Vientiane, Ms. Huyen also organizes many community activities to express the cultural identity of the Vietnamese homeland in Laos. Specifically, the program of wrapping traditional Chung cakes for Tet, the Vietnamese culinary art contest, the Vietnamese traditional Tet goods fair... Although not a professional MC, but overcoming her own self-consciousness, Ms. Thu Huyen boldly became the MC in many community events of Vietnamese people in Laos. Ms. Thu Huyen has also built many meaningful community programs such as: organizing Children's Day, the annual full moon festival for Vietnamese children in Laos; organizing sports competitions on the occasion of Vietnamese Family Day on June 28; organizing community Tet; organizing cultural and artistic programs on holidays at Phat Tich Pagoda in Vientiane; organizing and participating in charity activities at the pagoda.Ms. Thu Huyen also organizes many community activities to express the cultural identity of the Vietnamese homeland in Laos.
With her good Lao language skills, Ms. Thu Huyen has also supported as an interpreter for many Vietnamese delegations visiting and working in Laos, such as: Ho Chi Minh City Women's Union, Hanoi Young Doctors Association, Ho Chi Minh City Fatherland Front... In addition, Ms. Thu Huyen also provides free legal advice to many Vietnamese companies and individuals who come to Laos to study and work. Especially during the period when the Covid-19 epidemic broke out strongly in Laos as well as many other countries in the world , Ms. Thu Huyen was honored to accompany the Vientiane Capital Covid-19 Prevention Committee throughout the process of tracing, isolating outbreaks, contacting and instructing people at risk of infection to comply with Laos's epidemic prevention regulations, instructing and working with women to cook food and distribute meals and personal items to each Vietnamese person infected with Covid-19 who is being treated at Covid-19 treatment points in Vientiane. “I have also actively translated Lao documents on Covid-19 prevention and control into Vietnamese and informed overseas Vietnamese, especially in many cases where Vietnamese translation is needed directly at Covid-19 treatment points,” Ms. Thu Huyen shared.
