The producer of the film "Once Upon a Time There Was a Love Story" - adapted from the novel of the same name by writer Nguyen Nhat Anh - on June 27 informed about the meeting between director Trinh Dinh Le Minh and the writer.
At the meeting, writer Nguyen Nhat Anh said that after the book has been published, the writer has the right to let his mind run wild. He does not think much about how it will be turned into a film. Because he knows that the same character in his work, but one hundred readers will have one hundred different imaginary images, depending on each person's personality and experience.

Talking about the fact that the novel "Once Upon a Time There Was a Love Story" became the next work to be adapted into a film, writer Nguyen Nhat Anh commented: "As a writer, I just hope that from literary materials, the director will create a successful film, especially one that touches the emotions of the audience, that's good enough!".
He believes that like many people, director Trinh Dinh Le Minh will imagine the characters Vinh, Phuc, and Mien based on his feelings, imagination, personality, and personal creative tendencies.
When asked if he felt pressured or worried about his work being adapted into a film, writer Nguyen Nhat Anh said: "By the time the book is completed and reaches the public, I have fulfilled my responsibility as a writer. Therefore, from book to film, I think the pressure now belongs more to the director!"
Previously, writer Nguyen Nhat Anh has shared with the media many times that he does not interfere in the process of adapting his works to film. He believes that directors with full responsibility and expertise can do a good job of adapting.
Writer Nguyen Nhat Anh revealed that "Once Upon a Time There Was a Love Story" is the first work that marked the first time he directly described intimacy between men and women. Several of his other works also have female characters who become pregnant and give birth, but have never directly described intimacy between men and women. With soaring, metaphorical writing, not going directly or explicitly, the writer described it directly but indirectly in a vague way.
Writer Nguyen Nhat Anh believes that when a work is adapted to the big screen, the pressure will fall more on the director than the writer.
"Reading it again now, I still find it funny because I don't know what the two of them are doing. I described the story directly but indirectly, so much so that many young readers don't understand how they had a baby. To turn this vague passage into a concrete image, I think director Trinh Dinh Le Minh must have a very rich imagination" - writer Nguyen Nhat Anh commented.
The film "Once Upon a Time There Was a Love Story" is in the early stages of the project with the casting. Director Trinh Dinh Le Minh said: "I think I found a connection in the atmosphere and color of the story, so I boldly stepped into this project. The film will certainly not lack the sincerity of emotions, the gentleness in the expressions of love and the fierce moments of choice with the truth being love."
The film is expected to be released in 2024.
