Author Nguyen Manh Ha was in charge of the Information Verification Team of 34 members of the Vietnam Propaganda Liberation Army of the Vietnam Military History Institute from April 2000 to March 2003.
With the desire to help today's readers, especially young readers, learn about the army and modern history of Vietnam, author Nguyen Manh Ha has briefly rewritten and supplemented the content from the book Vietnam Propaganda Liberation Army by the group of authors: Trinh Vuong Hong, Nguyen Manh Ha, Tran Ngoc Long, Chu Van Tung, Phan Sy Phuc of the Vietnam Military History Institute, Ministry of National Defense (People's Army Publishing House, 2004).
The book “Vietnam Propaganda Liberation Army Team” published by Kim Dong Publishing House on this occasion includes 2 parts: Part 1 – The birth and operation of the Vietnam Propaganda Liberation Army Team. Part 2 – A brief account of the organizer and 34 officers and soldiers of the Vietnam Propaganda Liberation Army Team.
Part 1 mentions the formation and development process of the Vietnam Propaganda Liberation Army with the first victorious battles, the first newspaper, the first martyrs... The historic moment of a winter evening, December 22, 1944, in the middle of the old forest of Tran Hung Dao, Nguyen Binh, Cao Bang , 34 officers and soldiers took a sacred oath to fight and sacrifice for independence, freedom, for a lasting country... The Vietnam Propaganda Liberation Army, the predecessor of the heroic Vietnam People's Army, was born like that...
Author Nguyen Manh Ha said that in 1992, the Vietnam Liberation Army Liaison Committee organized a meeting for comrades who were cadres and team members of the team. According to the wishes of many comrades in the Liaison Committee, the General Department of Politics and the Ministry of National Defense helped and created conditions to research, collect, verify, and compile a list of the Vietnam Propaganda Liberation Army Team. At that time, General Vo Nguyen Giap said: "It's slow to do it now, but it's still in time and must be done." However, by that time, nearly half a century had passed, some team members had sacrificed, and those "involved" who were still alive were old or had passed away, so verifying the list was very difficult.
Based on veteran revolutionary cadres, witnesses and living team members, with the method of synthesis and comparison, a list was made of up to... 74 people.
This "error" is also understandable because the information is based on each person's memory. The team members met each other in secret operations, lived and fought together in the unit for a while, then had to disperse to operate in other units and areas...
After three conferences held in Cao Bang, Thai Nguyen and Hanoi, along with further research and investigation, on November 2, 1994, a list of 34 team members was determined and submitted to General Vo Nguyen Giap for approval in time to have their names engraved on a stele placed in the Tran Hung Dao Forest Relic Site, Nguyen Binh District, Cao Bang Province on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the founding of the Army (December 22, 1994). However, when the stele was completed, there were also some suggestions for corrections and additions. Therefore, the verification and correction of information about the team members continued from April 2000 to March 2003 to obtain the current list.
Part 2 of the book pays tribute to the 34 members of the Vietnam Propaganda Liberation Army Team and General Vo Nguyen Giap, who, under the direction of President Ho Chi Minh, organized and established the Team. Right after the historic December 22, 1944, 34 members of the Vietnam Propaganda Liberation Army Team fought, contributing their efforts and blood to the cause of national liberation. Among them, there were comrades who sacrificed their lives, some comrades became generals of the Vietnam People's Army and achieved many feats, many were demobilized after liberation, continuing to contribute to society in different roles and positions. There were glorious feats, there were silent sacrifices, each member had a different life, but all came from "the people", shared the ideal of "fighting for the people", and together kept the Ten Oaths of Honor.
Ms. Vu Thi Quynh Lien, Deputy Director and Editor-in-Chief of Kim Dong Publishing House, shared: “The book Vietnam Propaganda Liberation Army is written clearly, scientifically, concisely, simply and emotionally, not only suitable for young readers but also for those who want to learn about the history of the Vietnamese army and modern Vietnamese history. Readers will find a lot of documents and information as well as learn the author's serious and careful way of working on historical and human issues. The book also depicts a true portrait of Uncle Ho's soldiers that the Vietnamese people always trust and are grateful for.”
