On the afternoon of January 16, the People's Committee of Da Nang City and the government of Yokohama City (Japan) organized the 12th Da Nang Urban Development Forum. Speaking at the forum, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee Le Quang Nam emphasized that Da Nang and Yokohama City began their cooperation relationship in 2013, especially signing a memorandum of understanding on technical cooperation towards sustainable development. In particular, the Da Nang Urban Development Forum is an important event, where leaders, experts and businesses from Yokohama City shared experiences and ideas on building sustainable urban development. Da Nang has chosen Yokohama as a model city to learn valuable experiences in developing and operating seaports, urban planning, sustainable development, etc. Up to now, Yokohama City has created many favorable conditions to help and support Da Nang City in the process of preparing plans and orienting to support the development of a number of strategic projects.

Vice Chairman of the City People's Committee Le Quang Nam highly appreciated the major and urgent contents of the 12th Da Nang City Urban Development Forum, including: ecological industrial parks, solid waste management (garbage), smart urban development, assessment of local voluntary implementation of the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (VLR), business connection between Da Nang and Japanese enterprises... The city acknowledged the ideas and proposed solutions of delegates, experts, and enterprises in Yokohama City and considered this an important source of information for the city to research and plan policies, aiming to build a sustainable city. At the same time, Da Nang City proposed that Yokohama City, together with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), the World Bank (WB), and the Asian Development Bank (ADB), support Da Nang in researching underground space planning; calling for investment in a modern waste treatment plant in the form of socialization; solutions to control plastic waste; planning the elevation of wastewater and stormwater drainage, assessing the overall drainage system, forming a flood map...; thereby also hoping that the Japanese side will support consulting or find consultants with experience in building an urban development model with public transport as the center (TOD)...
Consul General of Japan in Da Nang, Yakabe Yoshinori, highly appreciated the cooperation and association between the two cities in many fields and emphasized that Yokohama City is a model worth considering when Da Nang implements its long-term development goals. The cooperation and association with Yokohama City is very useful for Da Nang. The Consulate General of Japan in Da Nang will provide maximum support for the relationship between the two cities to develop further in the future.
Mr. Hashimoto Toru, General Director of the International Cooperation Bureau of Yokohama City, shared that over the past 10 years, Yokohama City has shared a lot of knowledge about urban development, working together to solve existing problems of Da Nang City; at the same time, has coordinated to build an urban development program, the project "Building Da Nang - Environmental City" for the period 2021-2030, the project to upgrade equipment at water plants to reduce carbon emissions, assessment services and planning for energy saving practices...
Mr. Hashimoto Toru also expressed that when Da Nang city intends to participate in the voluntary local assessment of the implementation of the United Nations' sustainable development goals (VLR), Yokohama city supports and hopes that Da Nang will become one of the leading cities in the Asian region to work together towards sustainable development and a carbon-neutral society. This will also help Da Nang promote its image and attract investment as well as attract more support resources for Da Nang to build and develop further. Mr. Hashimoto Toru proposed that Da Nang city study the Minato Mirai 21 model as a model for urban reconstruction and TOD model building, especially building a port city, airport city...; at the same time, he requested JICA, WB, ADB... to continue to support Da Nang city more so that the city can develop in accordance with the announced plans.
