Growing lotus for tubers and seeds has been developed by farmers in Hung Long commune in recent years.

Previously, along with the difficulties in transportation, Hung Long commune also had many areas of low-lying, ineffective, abandoned fields. The commune has the Hong Phuc - Hung Long industrial cluster, which attracts many workers, so the number of young agricultural workers has decreased sharply. To overcome this difficulty, the Party Committee and the government have strengthened leadership and direction, and with the efforts and creativity of many farmers, a number of effective agricultural models and methods have emerged in Hung Long.

Mr. Le Dinh Doan in Van Diem village is one of the leading households in land accumulation in the commune. From the initial 5 sao of his family, up to now, Mr. Doan is cultivating nearly 20 hectares of rice fields with rice varieties VNR20, TBR225... with quite high profits. Mr. Doan said: "Fragmented production with low efficiency, not comparable to working in a company, is the reason why people are bored with rice fields. Therefore, I asked to rent the fields, invested in machinery, determined to get rich from rice."

Also from many years of ineffective rice cultivation, Mrs. Bui Thi Tam in Trai Hao village borrowed the fields of villagers to grow nearly 4 hectares of lotus since 2017. Not only simply growing lotus, Mrs. Tam has researched and learned in many places, referring to many different varieties of lotus for seeds, flowers, and tubers to test on her homeland. Mrs. Tam said: "The family has to hire more people to be present in the fields to take care of and harvest the flowers, in time to send them to customers far away. The amount of flowers consumed is high on holidays, full moon and new moon days, every day my family sells a few hundred lotus flowers, the value is better than growing rice".

In recent years, out of the 5 stages of agricultural production in Hung Long commune, 4 stages have been mechanized, using many machines (including soil preparation, fertilization, pesticide spraying, harvesting). Hung Long commune is one of the leading communes in the district in tray-planting technology - machine planting. Machines help mechanize the remaining stage of planting, thereby forming "footprint-free fields". The commune has 100% of the area for planting seedlings on the yard, on hard ground, and machine planting using tray-planting.

Currently, Hung Long commune has 351 hectares of rice varieties: VNR20, TNR225, glutinous rice... In the commune, there are about 10 households accumulating land of 3 hectares or more. To proactively accumulate land, change crop structure, and restructure agriculture, the locality has reviewed abandoned fields and areas with poor economic efficiency to convert to concentrated rice and vegetable growing areas.

Mr. Pham Huu Tan has more than 2 acres of ponds raising square-head perch.

In Hung Long commune, there are currently 93.3 hectares of ponds for raising various types of fish: tilapia, tilapia with many households raising them on a large scale. The locality and the people have invested tens of billions of dong in pouring concrete roads to the places to help people facilitate production, transportation and consumption.

Mr. Pham Huu Tan in Van Diem village was one of the first people in the locality to raise square-head perch, bringing high economic efficiency. Initially, due to lack of experience, many fish died. With a strong will and finding ways to overcome difficulties, Mr. Tan succeeded in raising square-head perch for meat and breeding. With more than 2 hectares of square-head perch pond, he raises 2 batches each year, earning nearly 700 million VND.

“This type of fish is easy to raise, grows quickly and can be raised at high density. This type of fish is many times more economically efficient than traditional fish,” said Mr. Tan.
