Which subjects will have their textbooks revised after the province merger?

The Ministry of Education and Training (MOET) said that there are a number of subjects that are directly affected by changes in administrative boundaries. Therefore, these subjects will take steps to revise their curriculum, which will serve as a basis for revising textbooks.

On the evening of June 14, the Ministry of Education and Training informed about the review and adjustment of some contents in the general education program to ensure suitability with reality and new development context.

The Ministry of Education and Training said it has organized steps to review and evaluate the implementation of the 2018 general education program. This is a regular and periodic task to ensure that the program is implemented in accordance with reality and meets the requirements of educational development in each stage. During the evaluation process, a number of subjects and educational content have been proposed to be updated and adjusted to better meet the requirements of innovation and the socio -economic development of the country.

In 2025, the review of curriculum and textbooks will be carried out in the context of the whole country implementing the arrangement of provincial-level administrative units according to Resolution 202/2025/QH15 of the National Assembly. Based on the review, the Ministry of Education and Training identified a number of subjects that are directly affected by the change of administrative boundaries, including: History and Geography for grades 4, 5, and 9; Geography for grade 12; History, EconomicEducation and Law for grade 10.

The revision of the course curriculum will be carried out in a way that minimizes changes to textbooks.

These subjects will take prescribed steps to revise their curriculum and textbooks, including updating requirements, knowledge content, place names, data, maps, charts and socio-economic information.

The Ministry of Education and Training affirmed that the revision of subject programs is carried out on the principle of minimizing changes to textbooks and strengthening guidance so that teachers and schools can proactively implement the program according to their authority to suit reality.

According to the Ministry of Education and Training, the 2018 general education program reflects the goals of general education, ensuring a unified orientation and core, compulsory educational content for students. Textbooks specify the program content and are identified as important learning materials and documents for schools to choose to organize teaching. Teachers and schools are given the right to proactively arrange learning topics, update and supplement content to suit the students, teaching and learning conditions and practical conditions.

In the 2025-2026 school year, teachers and schools will continue to use the current curriculum and textbooks, while being responsible for proactively selecting and adjusting teaching materials, lessons, and topics to suit local realities and the two-level government model.

In the coming time, the Ministry of Education and Training will issue documents directing and guiding localities and schools to implement continuously, without interruption and in accordance with reality.

The Ministry of Education and Training will guide publishers, organizations and individuals with approved textbooks to revise the necessary content to update new administrative information in the direction of ensuring the stability of textbooks and effectiveness in teaching and learning. In addition, localities will proactively select and develop local educational content, ensuring that it is suitable for the characteristics of the new administrative unit and the 2-level local government organization model.
