Riverbank landslide, urgent evacuation of 4 households near Saigon River

A 50m long dike along the Saigon River, a traffic route, suddenly collapsed into the river, threatening four households living nearby.

On June 14, Binh My Commune Police coordinated with the Military Command of Cu Chi District, Ho Chi Minh City to reinforce the eroded dike section along the Saigon River, through Hamlet 3, Binh My Commune. The approximately 50m long dike section collapsed into the Saigon River early in the morning, cutting off the only road for households living along the Saigon River.

The dike section along the Saigon River is seriously eroded.

Four households living near the river were evacuated to a safe location to avoid further landslides. Many households in the area were also warned by authorities to be on guard against further landslides due to heavy rain and unusually high river levels.

Functional units organize reinforcement of landslide areas.

At the landslide site, functional units have used temporary reinforcement measures using Melaleuca stakes and tree trunks. The commune government also sent a working group to assess the situation, determine the cause of the landslide, monitor the landslide sites and develop a plan to overcome the situation, avoiding damage to houses, property and lives of local people.
