General Secretary To Lam and the Central working delegation worked with Ho Chi Minh City and the two provinces of Binh Duong and Ba Ria - Vung Tau on apparatus reorganization, economic development, and ensuring social security.

On the morning of June 18, General Secretary To Lam and the Central working delegation worked with the Standing Committees of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee, Binh Duong Provincial Party Committee and Ba Ria - Vung Tau Provincial Party Committee to evaluate the implementation of recent resolutions, apparatus reorganization, economic development, and social security.

Also attending were Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and members of the Politburo , members of the Secretariat, leaders of ministries, departments and central branches.

On the local leadership side, there were Politburo member, Secretary of Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee Nguyen Van Nen, Secretary of Binh Duong Provincial Party Committee Nguyen Van Loi, Secretary of Ba Ria - Vung Tau Provincial Party Committee Pham Viet Thanh.

In addition, the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee also invited candidates expected to be secretaries and chairmen of the People's Committees of 102 new wards and communes to attend.

This is the first working session of General Secretary To Lam with the three localities after the National Assembly passed the resolution on merging provinces on June 12, in which Ho Chi Minh City merged Binh Duong and Ba Ria - Vung Tau into a provincial-level administrative unit, named Ho Chi Minh City.

After the merger, Ho Chi Minh City is more than 6,700 km² wide, with a population of nearly 14 million people. The new city has 168 commune-level administrative units, including: 113 wards, 54 communes and Con Dao special zone.

Two days ago, the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City and the two provinces also held a working session to agree on a plan to rearrange the apparatus, departments and public service units of the three localities, to be ready to operate the two-level local government model from July 1.
