Fathers in Peacetime

(PLVN) - Every family wants all members to be together every day. However, there are very special families where the father is forced to be absent to work far from home to make ends meet or to perform duties in the military, police, or to prevent natural disasters and epidemics...

Fathers shoulder a noble mission

The war has been over for decades, but the responsibilities and tasks of soldiers in the highlands, border and island areas have never been easier. Carrying the noble mission of Uncle Ho's Army, the soldiers still dedicate themselves day and night, by the people, for the people, ready to sacrifice to build and protect the Fatherland.

Despite their great responsibilities, they are also fathers and husbands. In their daily lives, when they return home, they always give their love to their wives and children. Whether they are at the border, on a remote island, or in the “epicenter of the epidemic”, their family is always a strong support, sending love, encouragement, and support to them.

In early 2025, the story of Ms. Dang Thi Thom's family living in Nam Dinh province has attracted much attention. Ms. Thom is an accountant at the commune's Medical Center, and her husband, Mr. Chu Van Kha, is currently a professional military major, a news officer of Brigade 146, Naval Region 4, working on Da Tay C island, Truong Sa archipelago, Khanh Hoa province. Mr. Kha has been involved in protecting the sea and islands for more than 15 years.

Ms. Thom met Mr. Kha in 2012, they got married, right after the wedding, Mr. Kha received the task of returning to his unit for a long time. Ms. Thom stayed home to work and take care of her parents-in-law. At home, she became a strong support for Mr. Kha, she went through two "births" without her husband by her side. When the second child was four years old, the child met her father for the first time. At first, she felt strange when meeting her father, but after that, she always looked forward to the day her father returned, even tearing up the calendar to count the days. Ms. Thom herself also missed her husband very much, but always put aside her personal worries, so that Mr. Kha could rest assured to serve the country and the people on the remote island.

There are also fathers who have to "go to war" when the epidemic is raging to protect their people and their families. A few years ago, when the COVID-19 epidemic was raging strongly all over the world , including Vietnam. Many soldiers, police, doctors, and nurses bravely volunteered to go to the front line to fight the epidemic. Behind them, are families, wives, and young children who day and night express their love, encouragement, respect, and love for their fathers.

The story of Do Hoang Lan, then a 7/1 grade student at Ly Nhon Secondary School, Can Gio District (HCMC), sharing about her father's work in preventing and fighting the COVID-19 pandemic at the Vu A Dinh scholarship award ceremony and the scholarship of the "For Hoang Sa - Truong Sa Beloved" Club moved many people.

The father of female student Do Hoang Lan is working at Long Hoa Border Post, Can Gio District, Ho Chi Minh City Border Guard. Holding the scholarship in her hand, Hoang Lan emotionally said that this is a spiritual gift that helps her to be more confident and try harder in life because there are always kind hearts beside her, helping her on her path of study. She promises to always try her best to study well, be a good child, a good student so as not to disappoint everyone who has given her love.

Or in 2021, Dr. Nguyen Huu Nghia (then 28 years old, Department of Intensive Care and Anti-Poison, Bai Chay Hospital, Quang Ninh) went to support the epidemic center of Bac Giang in early June. At that time, his wife was at home giving birth to their first daughter. After nearly a month in the epidemic center, he returned and was in centralized quarantine at the Quang Ninh Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital, longing to see his wife and children in person.

When the COVID-19 epidemic broke out strongly, his wife was pregnant, but she still supported her husband to go to the epidemic center. Her husband was very touched by his wife's encouragement. He quickly set off. In the epidemic area, he was an enthusiastic and dedicated doctor, but when his shift ended, he returned to his wife and children. When he heard the news that his wife had successfully "given birth", as a father and husband, he burst into tears of emotion and happiness. He also expressed his wish to be with his wife and children on such an important day, but for the country and the people, Dr. Huu Nghia returned to reunite immediately after the epidemic ended.

Dad is always "superman"

The ancients had a saying: “A father’s merit is like Mount Tai, a mother’s kindness is like water flowing from a source” to talk about the steadfastness and willingness to sacrifice oneself to protect one’s wife and children, becoming the pillar of the family. Therefore, many fathers have chosen the losing side to provide their children with a prosperous and happy future.

Cha lúc nào cũng là "siêu nhân"

Dad is always "superman"

Perhaps, in the eyes of wives and children, fathers are always "superheroes" even though they do not wear military ranks or blue and white shirts, they still strive to bring a happy life to their families.

That is the story of Mr. Nguyen Huu Dinh (from Dong Phu village, Phuong Tu commune, Ung Hoa district, Hanoi) who has been working outside the city for more than ten years as a bicycle pumper, repairer, doing whatever he is hired to do. The job of a freelance worker is precarious, the income is unstable, on sunny days he can earn more than a hundred thousand, and on rainy days he sometimes earns nothing. Mr. Dinh accepts to work as a motorbike taxi driver or if there is a shortage of porters, he also nods to earn a few tens of thousands more to save up and send his children to school. With such an income, Mr. Dinh is also casual about his accommodation, sometimes on the sidewalk, sometimes sleeping at a building security post, under a bridge... to a public toilet or setting up a temporary tent. There is a more special place to live, an abandoned sewer pipe that has become Mr. Dinh's "house" in the city.

Mr. Dinh's family in the countryside has 8 sao of rice fields, just enough to feed 7 mouths and an elderly mother over 90 years old. Mr. Dinh's wife stays in the countryside, every day plucking chicken and duck feathers for hire, earning only a few hundred thousand. For Mr. Dinh, not being able to be close to his family and follow his children's journey of growth is a pity. But he is happy because he has raised children with determination and will to overcome difficulties. In 2013, when his twin sons passed the university entrance exam, Nguyen Huu Tien was the valedictorian of Hanoi Medical University with 29.5 points, Nguyen Huu Tien also passed the university entrance exam with 26 points, and his two older daughters also graduated from university. For Mr. Dinh, his children always have love and respect.

In 2024, the story of Pham Ngoc Huy, a 12A1 student at Yen Dinh 1 High School (Yen Dinh District) excelled in becoming the valedictorian of block A1 in Thanh Hoa province. Huy is also the valedictorian of Thanh Hoa's natural science department with a total score of 55.95 in the 2024 high school graduation exam. It is known that Pham Ngoc Huy's family is in a difficult situation, with four siblings. Huy's father is the breadwinner of the family, he is a construction worker at construction sites, often away from home. In addition to going to school, Huy often helps his parents take care of his younger siblings, do farming, and do housework.

Mr. Pham Van Hao (40 years old, father of the new valedictorian) said he was very proud and happy that his son had always strived and steadfastly pursued his dream. When he received the news that Huy was a double valedictorian, he was working as a construction worker at a construction site. He was very surprised when his relatives called to inform him. He was very surprised because it was something the whole family had never thought of. He thought that his hardships and difficulties had been compensated by his son. Although his work was busy and the burden of making a living was still weighing heavily on his shoulders, Mr. Hao was determined to take time off work to congratulate his son and go with him to watch the program Am vang xu Thanh as a small gift for Huy's efforts.

Without needing to be rewarded, fathers still silently care for, protect and are willing to sacrifice everything to give their children the best. No matter what their job or personality is, fathers are always hesitant to express their great love for their children. Those who play the role of a pillar in the family often choose to silently sacrifice, quietly care for and look after their children. The love of fathers is considered a "silent hero", not only a solid pillar of the family, shouldering many hardships, but also a lifelong protector, always watching and worrying until their children are truly grown up.
