Reduce or eliminate high school transcript consideration
Regarding the 2025 enrollment issue, Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Trung, Vice Principal of Ho Chi Minh City University of Education, said that the school will not use high school transcripts in the enrollment process and will only retain conditions that ensure input quality according to the Ministry's enrollment regulations.
The school also orients the method of using the results of the school's specialized competency assessment exam to become the main one, as an independent exam.
It is expected that this method will include the use of 2 subjects for admission to each major, in which 1 main subject is multiplied by a coefficient of 2 and 1 secondary subject is not multiplied by a coefficient. This will help to comprehensively assess the candidate's learning ability and suitability to the requirements of each major.
In addition, some schools also combine to use the results of their own exams, such as Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry and Trade, which plans to coordinate with Ho Chi Minh City University of Education to organize exams and use the results of specialized competency assessment exams.
Mr. Pham Thai Son, Director of the Admissions and Communications Center, Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry and Trade, said that the school will have the following quotas: 60% based on the national high school graduation exam scores, about 20% based on the 3-year high school transcript scores (reduced compared to the previous year), the remaining 20% is expected to be based on the specialized competency assessment exam of the University of Education, and the competency assessment of Ho Chi Minh City National University.
"It is expected that in the 2025 enrollment season, the school will have a quota of about 7,000-8,000 students and there will not be many changes compared to 2024. The only option is to consider assessing the specialized capacity of Ho Chi Minh City University of Education," said Mr. Son.
Also from 2025, Ho Chi Minh City National University has agreed to implement three admission methods: Direct admission; Admission based on the results of the capacity assessment exam and admission based on the results of the high school graduation exam.
In addition, some member schools of Ho Chi Minh City National University also plan to reduce admission methods.
Of which, the University of Economics and Law plans to enroll students in 3 methods, 2 methods less than in 2024. Specifically, the planned methods are direct admission and priority direct admission; Admission based on the results of the 2025 Ho Chi Minh City National University's Competency Assessment Exam and the 2025 High School Graduation Exam scores.
Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology only uses two admission methods: direct admission according to regulations and combined admission (assessment of capacity, high school exam results, high school academic performance and other capacities).
Adjust subject combination
2025 is also the first year of the high school graduation exam according to the 2018 General Education Program. Therefore, some schools are also researching and developing subject combinations for admission, ensuring suitability for each major and diverse choices of students.
Dr. Nguyen Trung Nhan, Head of Training Department, Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry, said that the timelines will change to suit the new draft.
Priority admission method is expected to be used for early admission. Other methods will be considered in the same admission round.
In addition, the admission combination is also adjusted with the 2018 General Education Program. Accordingly, a major is not limited to 4 combinations, but depending on the characteristics of each major, there may be more combinations.
“This year's combination will have 2 compulsory subjects out of 4 high school graduation exam subjects and choose 1 of the remaining subjects (maybe 4-5 subjects). This is the change this year. This method can be applied to both the method of considering high school exam scores or learning results or giving priority to considering learning results," Dr. Nguyen Trung Nhan added.
