In 2016, we were the first border village to achieve the New Rural Area status, and in 2020 we achieved the model New Rural Area status. Currently, we have a well-maintained and synchronized road system, village cultural house, and other welfare facilities. The material and spiritual lives of the people have improved significantly, with average per capita income among the top in the district at 55 million VND/person/year. Only 3 elderly and infirm households remain in poverty in the entire village.”

The rhythm of production is bustling and hectic every morning at Thach Kim fishing port (Loc Ha district).

Along the coastal border, Thach Kim commune (Loc Ha district) is considered the most outstanding highlight with its developed socio-economic conditions, guaranteed national defense and security, and well-cared-for people's lives. The economic picture of this coastal commune has many bright spots: a fleet of 96 fishing vessels operating efficiently brought in 1,745 tons of shrimp and fish, generating nearly 96 billion VND in value; trade, services, small-scale industries, processing, and labor export activities brought in 320 billion VND; total commune income in 2023 reached 415 billion VND, per capita income reached nearly 48 million VND/year, and the poverty rate decreased to 5.5%...

According to Nguyen Tien Dan, Secretary of the Party Committee of Thach Kim commune: “Along with socio-economic development, the work of ensuring national defense and security has always been taken care of. The Party Committee and the government have directed and urged the local police and military forces to closely coordinate with the Cua Sot Border Guard Post to regularly patrol, guard, and monitor the area to protect the peaceful lives of the people and to protect the sovereignty of the sea and islands, especially during holidays and Tet. Complex incidents and conflicts are detected and handled promptly at the grassroots level, so there are no 'hot spots,' and rural security and security in religious areas are ensured.”

Currently, Ha Tinh province has 41 border localities located in 9 districts and towns (10 communes in 3 districts along the land border and 31 communes, wards, and towns in 6 districts and towns along the sea border). These border localities have a total area of 198,917 hectares and a population of nearly 77,000 households/over 292,000 people. Many ethnic minority groups live along the Vietnam-Laos land border, including: Man (154 households/455 people), Lao (153 households/551 people), Nung (57 households/239 people), Chut (44 households/156 people), Muong (36 households/103 people), Thai (9 households/36 people), Tay (7 households/22 people), etc.

The border areas of Ha Tinh province are crucial and sensitive in terms of national defense and security. They are considered remote and isolated regions with low starting points, difficult economic development conditions, and uneven levels of education and awareness among the people. Therefore, in recent years, in addition to the attention of the Party and the State, the 13 border guard posts stationed along the two border lines have worked alongside and supported 41 local Party committees, governments, and people in caring for and developing these border areas, making them increasingly prosperous and well-developed.
