Festivals and cultural exchanges are held on holidays and Tet, creating a bustling and meaningful playground for the Retirement Groups and Clubs under the Can Tho City Retirement Club.
Last April, Can Tho City Retirement Club organized a cultural and sports exchange program to celebrate the 50th anniversary of national reunification.
There were 15 units including Retired Liaison Groups (LLHT), Art Clubs participating in the art exchange with 30 performances of singing, dancing, folk dancing, poetry recitation, traditional singing... praising the Party, Uncle Ho, homeland, and country. The Chess Club and Table Tennis Club had more than 30 athletes participating in the competition and exchange. The program took place in an exciting, joyful atmosphere, spreading the spirit of love for art, sports, and living happily and healthily among the city's elderly.
This is one of the annual activities of the Retirement Club and a familiar playground for those who love arts and sports. In addition to the two major holidays of April 30 and September 2, the Club often organizes exchange programs, festivals, art and sports competitions, Ao Dai fashion competitions , etc. on holidays and Tet during the year.
Currently, Can Tho City Retirement Club has 17 LLHT Groups with more than 1,000 members, of which about 800 members participate regularly. Many LLHT Groups are prominent and active.
From 5:00 to 6:30 a.m. every day, the performing arts team of the An Khanh Ward Youth Union, Ninh Kieu District, is present at the Ward Cultural - Sports Center to practice dancing, singing, and folk dancing together. Ms. Nguyen Viet Thu, Deputy Head of the An Khanh Ward Youth Union, said: “The team has 113 members. In addition to activities to celebrate longevity, visit when sick, help each other in difficult times or funerals, we also have the spiritual joy of performing arts activities. About 20 members who love singing and dancing join in practicing every day. The members of the performing arts team are mostly from the Dance, Sports, Traditional Music and Dance Club of An Khanh Ward, so we not only participate in exchanges and performances at programs organized by the Retirement Club, but also participate in many competitions, performances, and art festivals organized by the ward or the Association of the Elderly, and the Veterans Association at all levels.”
With the Hung Loi Ward Retirement Club, although there are no grounds or halls for regular practice, every time there is a program organized by the Retirement Club, the Club gathers members with an artistic spirit to practice together at the Ward People's Committee's yard, bringing meaningful and well-prepared performances to the program. Ms. Tran Thi Kim Hoang, Head of the Hung Loi Ward Retirement Club, shared: "Our Club has nearly 200 members. In addition to performing arts, we also successfully complete the programs and plans of the Retirement Club, and have achieved the title of Excellent Club for many consecutive years". Many Retirement Clubs have strengths and outstanding activities such as the An Hoa Ward Retirement Club, which has built a core art troupe, participating in performances and serving many local programs and events; the Binh Thuy Ward Retirement Club organizes regular activities once a quarter to connect members, disseminate necessary content about policies, laws, health, family, etc.
In addition, the Retirement Club also has affiliated clubs such as the Table Tennis Club, the Chess Club, the Amateur Music Club, the Traditional Music Club, the Women's Club on March 8, etc. with many members who regularly participate in regular activities. Mr. Tran Thanh Phong, a resident of Thoi Binh Ward, said: "I join the Chess Club and the Amateur Music Club, both to develop my own abilities and to interact and connect with people with similar interests."
According to the Board of Directors of the Can Tho City Retirement Club, in the coming time, following the changes and mergers of administrative units, the Club will also rearrange the LLHT Groups to suit the new situation. At the same time, it will strive to maintain and promote the achieved results, continuing to be a bridge and spiritual support for the city's retired cadres.
