Joy on new roads along the Tien River

Provincial Road 864 Project (road along Tien River) passes through Cai Be, Cai Lay, Chau Thanh, Cho Gao, Go Cong Tay, Go Cong Dong districts and My Tho City. The project has a length of about 111.2 km including: New construction section of about 36.4 km, upgraded and expanded section of about 26.3 km and fully utilizing the existing section of about 48.5 km. On the route, 6 new bridges are built, designed load capacity HL93.

Accordingly, the project phase 1 (2022 - 2025) from My Tho city to Den Do, Go Cong Dong district has a length of about 44 km, road surface 11 m, roadbed 12 m. On the route, new bridges and culverts will be built on the route, load capacity HL93.

The section from National Highway 1 to Vam Tra Lot Bridge is about 12 km, with a road surface of 7 m and a roadbed of 9 m. For the bridge section on the route, 6 new bridges will be built, including: Cho Gao, Xuan Hoa, Vam Giong, Phuoc Trung, Long Uong, and Vam Kenh. Particularly, the section from My Thuan Bridge to Vam Tra Lot Bridge, about 12 km long, is being implemented by Cai Be District People's Committee. In Phase 2 (2026 - 2030), from My Thuan Bridge to National Highway 30, the province plans to call for investment and mobilize other legal capital sources to synchronously invest in the entire route.

On February 1, 2023, the Provincial People's Committee started the construction package of Vam Giong Bridge and the access road to the bridge to start the entire Provincial Road 864 Project. To date, the project has completed the section from National Highway 50 to Provincial Road 877B and Cho Gao Bridge, including 4 packages: Construction of the section from National Highway 50 to Cho Gao Bridge, construction of Cho Gao Bridge and the access road, construction of the section from Cho Gao Bridge to Provincial Road 877B and Vam Giong Bridge with a total length of more than 14 km, total value of more than 647 billion VND.

Vice Chairman of Tien Giang Provincial People's Committee Pham Van Trong said that Provincial Road 864 Project is a key project of the province, which is of great significance in contributing to the socio-economic development of Tien Giang province. The route helps to improve regional connectivity, creating great convenience in trade, travel and transport of goods between Tien Giang province and the provinces in the Tien River region and the Mekong Delta. This is a route connecting 3 economic-urban regions in the province. After completion, this key project will have strategic significance for the socio-economic development and security-defense of the locality.

The completion of Provincial Road 864 Project Phase 1 from National Highway 50 to Provincial Road 877B and Cho Gao Bridge will contribute to the completion of Provincial Road 864 Project as well as the completion of the road network as directed by the Prime Minister in Decision 1762 dated December 31, 2023 on approving the Planning of Tien Giang province for the period 2021 - 2030, with a vision to 2050.

PEOPLE ARE EXCITED

The completion and putting into use of Provincial Road 864 Project Phase 1 from National Highway 50 to Provincial Road 877B and Cho Gao Bridge has created excitement among the people in the areas where the project passes. Not only does it help facilitate travel, it is also a favorable condition for people to develop the economy.

Mr. Vo Van Nhan's family (Tan Hoa hamlet, Xuan Dong commune, Cho Gao district) has lived in Xuan Dong for many generations. They said that in the past, people in Xuan Dong commune encountered many difficulties in traveling and transporting goods. In 2024, the Provincial People's Committee invested in building Cho Gao bridge across Vam Ky Hon canal and provincial road 864. This is a joy for the people of Xuan Dong commune.

For generations, to get across the river to My Tho City, the people of Xuan Dong commune have had to depend on the ferry. On rainy days, everyone is worried and anxious. Students go to school, workers have to go to work early and sometimes have to return home because of rising water.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, comrade Pham Van Trong said that along with the Provincial Road 864 Project Phase 1 from National Highway 50 to Provincial Road 877B and Cho Gao Bridge invested by the Tien Giang Provincial Traffic Construction Investment Project Management Board, Cai Be District People's Committee is also urgently upgrading the section in Cai Be District.

In the coming time, the province will continue to construct the section from Long Binh to Den Do (land clearance has been completed) and continue to invest in the section from Den Do to Tan Thanh beach to complete the entire route to ensure traffic from National Highway 30 to Tan Thanh beach as soon as possible.

Patients who want to go to the hospital also have to wait for the ferry to run. People's travel and transportation of goods and agricultural products face many difficulties. Now that the new road has been completed and a solid bridge has been built across the river, the people of Xuan Dong commune feel like a dream has come true.

Mr. Nhan excitedly said: “The road and bridge not only make traveling more convenient, but also open up many opportunities. Our children go to school safely. Farmers can easily bring agricultural products to the market. From now on, the family economy has the opportunity to develop much more than before. We thank the attention of the authorities at all levels for creating conditions for the commune to have the bridge and provincial road 864. We promise to work and produce to contribute to building our homeland to be more prosperous and beautiful.”

Like many people living near Provincial Road 864, Mr. Tran Van Loc's family (Tan Tinh A Hamlet, Tan My Chanh Commune, My Tho City) was also very happy when the construction of Highway 864 and Cho Gao Bridge was completed. According to Mr. Loc, in the past, people in this area had to travel through small, winding alleys to get to National Highway 50.

Now, people can travel on the main road smoothly. The government invested in the main road to help farmers travel and transport agricultural products such as coconuts more conveniently. Vehicles can come to the place to buy, and gardeners do not need to transport far as before. After 50 years of liberating the South and unifying the country, for the first time, people here have a street lighting system invested close to their living area. The invested road has significantly changed the local landscape. People have renovated their houses.
