With the La Liga race heating up and the Champions League approaching its knockout stages, coach Alvaro Arbeloa faces another internal problem stemming from David Alaba's dissatisfaction.
According to Fichajes , the Austrian center-back reportedly demanded a direct explanation from the coaching staff regarding his underwhelming role. According to Spanish media, Alaba believes his experience and class deserve more playing time.
However, coach Arbeloa prioritizes current form and fitness, factors that the former Bayern player has not been able to maintain consistently after a series of long-term injuries.
Since the 2021/22 season, Alaba has suffered 16 different injuries, missing a total of 129 games. The most serious was an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tear that kept him out for almost a year. In his last 11 games, he only played 65 minutes in 5 of them.
Meanwhile, Real Madrid appear to have no plans to renew Alaba's contract, as his current agreement expires at the end of the season. Raul Asencio, Dean Huijsen, and younger options are being prioritized in their defensive rebuilding plans.
At 34, Alaba still believes he can contribute both professionally and mentally. But in the context of fierce competition and high physical demands, his future at Bernabeu is becoming uncertain.
