The land of worship of the founder of traditional silver carving profession
For a long time, Dong Xam village has had the custom of holding a festival at the end of March and the beginning of April of the lunar calendar every year, the main festival is on the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd of April of the lunar calendar. During the festival, the village's silver carving products are also displayed and sold as souvenirs to visitors to introduce and promote the traditional craft of the local people. In particular, the festival is an opportunity for silver guilds from all over to come to worship the founder of the Nguyen Kim Lau goldsmith profession.
According to the reporter of the Journalist and Public Opinion newspaper recorded on the afternoon of May 8, the Dong Xam Temple relic complex has a grand and large scale, including Dong Xam Temple and To Temple with a system of temples and pagodas located along the Vong River. According to the local people, Dong Xam Temple currently worships Trieu Vu Den and Trinh Thi Hoang Hau (wife of King Trieu Vu De). To Temple worships Nguyen Kim Lau (the founder of the traditional silver carving profession). The To Temple was built very early, in 1938 it was renovated, on this occasion the Dong Xam silver guild offered to the Temple a collection of gold and silver including: Silver Dinh, silver flower tube, silver crane, silver plaque with gold dragon...

Dong Xam silver carving village was formed in 1428 and has been around for more than 600 years, experiencing many ups and downs. However, this traditional silver carving village has been preserved and developed to this day. In 2010, the commune was recognized as a craft village by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and was granted a certificate by the Vietnam Craft Village Association as one of the 12 typical craft villages nationwide. During the French colonial period, the French used the village's products to export to Eastern and Western European countries, so Dong Xam's reputation has long been known to countries around the world.
In particular, the craft village always creates jobs for people, expanding to two neighboring communes, Le Loi and Tra Giang, forming a large craft area stretching 6km, creating jobs for over 5,000 workers with over 3,000 production teams, bringing in enough income to cover people's lives. What is special is that any product, any material, Dong Xam people can make from gold, silver, copper, all according to market demand, so the products of the craft village are very diverse. From items serving the domestic market such as jewelry, goods serving Buddhism, Catholicism, there are also carvings of famous landscapes in the country.
To make a silver carving product requires many steps, the most difficult of which is the carving step. This step is compared by Dong Xam village artisans to a person writing beautiful or bad handwriting, so each craftsman must have a mindset, aesthetic sense, talented and skillful hands, and a sharp eye to produce a beautiful product. In addition, each craftsman must be diligent, hard-working, and persistent... to be able to do it. Therefore, there are very few technical craftsmen and good technicians can usually make 4 sides: Plain, Dau, Dau, and Carved.
Make your mark with unique jewelry products
Up to now, the craftsmen of Dong Xam silver carving village have left their mark on large temples and pagodas across the country such as Bai Dinh, Tam Chuc... Besides, Dong Xam village is also honored to have 8 goldsmiths honoredby the President . In particular, Dong Xam villagers still preserve products that demonstrate the intellectual talent and ingenuity of previous craftsmen such as: Silver incense burners, Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter paintings... Therefore, customers who love handicrafts all appreciate Dong Xam craftsmen's high skills, silver products here have elegant shapes, sophisticated carvings, precise hammer strokes down to the smallest details with high gloss, meeting the needs of the most demanding customers.
In the program to support the development of "Vietnamese Intellectual Property" in 2012, the Ministry of Science and Technology and the Vietnam Intellectual Property Office awarded the brand logo to Dong Xam Silver Carving Village to represent the project "Building a collective brand for Dong Xam Silver Carving Village". More specifically, to preserve and promote the cultural identity and festival values of Dong Xam village in particular and the culture and history of the nation's origins in general, recently, a Cultural Heritage research group called "Vietnamese Temples and Temples" has published a book called Long Hung Trieu Vu De Documents and Commentaries (Lao Dong Publishing House). This book is like a dictionary explaining all the confusion that today's young generation does not clearly understand about Dong Xam Temple - the place where the founder of the Kim Hoan industry, Nguyen Kim Lau, is currently located. In particular, the book helps readers better understand the origins of our species and gratefully "recognize" their ancestors, realize that they are a continuation and gratefully keep their respect and gratitude to their predecessors.
In addition, the book is also the heart of the group of authors after a long journey of research and analysis, comparison as well as fieldwork. The basic content of the book is divided into four main parts: Part 1 is a number of suggestions about the injustices of Trieu Da, Co Loa citadel in Lac country; Part 2, the group of authors uses documents at the Dong Xam Temple relic and documents obtained during the search process to reconstruct the historical journey of "building bones and muscles" of Trieu Vu To from Chan Dinh land to Vu Ninh, Long Bien...

In the third part, the book briefly introduces the relics by region and a comprehensive list of relics worshiping the Trieu kings. In the final part, the book publishes original Han Nom documents that were directly collected from the relics and in national libraries, including 10 jade genealogies and copies of ca tru songs at Dong Xam temple... Finally, the book is like a respectful incense stick lit before the spirit of the Emperor who founded Nam Viet, who is also the "heroic talent" of the nation and the "wise king" as President Ho Chi Minh once said.
Currently, Dong Xam silver carving village has been developing day by day, creating unique jewelry products with unique beauty so that the traditional craft continues to be famous far and wide, bringing a stable source of income for many workers in the region. More specifically, every tourist from all over the world who has the opportunity to visit Dong Xam village will be able to see with their own eyes the unique jewelry products that are skillfully crafted, and it is also an opportunity to meet and share good stories with the hospitable and humane people of the coastal area.
