These days, farmers in Krong Bong district are busy harvesting corn seeds with the joy of a good harvest and good prices.
The family of Ms. Nguyen Thi Nga (Hoa Tan 3 village, Hoa Thanh commune) is focusing on human resources to harvest 1.3 hectares of B09 corn, with an estimated yield of more than 10 tons. Ms. Nga said that this crop, thanks to relatively favorable weather and many years of intensive farming experience, the corn plants have grown well and produced high yields (about 8 quintals/sao). With a selling price of 14,000 VND/kg of corn, after deducting investment costs, her family earned a profit of nearly 100 million VND.

This season, Tan Binh Agricultural and General Services Cooperative (HTX) cooperated with Syngenta Vietnam Co., Ltd. and Bioseed Vietnam Co., Ltd. to produce 50 hectares of corn seeds. Up to now, the cooperative has basically completed the harvest. According to Mr. Bui Phuoc Binh, Director of the Cooperative, from the beginning of the season, the rainy weather has created favorable conditions for corn to grow well, with a yield of 8 - 9 tons/ha (an increase of 30% compared to last year). With a stable selling price of 14,000 - 16,000 VND/kg of corn, people have earned a good profit of about 80 million VND/ha.
In the 2024-2025 Winter-Spring crop, the whole province will plant 69,360 hectares of short-term crops of all kinds. As of May 13, 61,598 hectares have been harvested (88.81% of the plan), including 45,744 hectares of rice, 3,712 hectares of corn, 1,350 hectares of tobacco, 4,881 hectares of vegetables, 1,398 hectares of beans, 75 hectares of sugarcane and 3,045 hectares of other crops. |
This winter-spring crop, tobacco growers are also very happy because the price is high, helping them earn a good profit. Mrs. Pham Thi Phuong's family (Hoa Tan 5 village, Hoa Thanh commune) grows 2 hectares of tobacco. Thanks to proactive irrigation water sources and proper planting and care techniques, her family's tobacco garden is lush, with an expected yield of about 7-8 tons. "This year, the tobacco yield is stable (3.5 - 4 quintals/sao, along with the selling price of 70,000 - 80,000 VND/kg of dried tobacco (5,000 - 10,000 VND higher than the previous crop), my family will earn a profit of about 300 million VND," Ms. Phuong calculated.
In the 2024-2025 Winter-Spring crop, the entire Krong Bong district will plant more than 7,717 hectares of short-term crops of all kinds (104% of the plan). Of which, there are 875 hectares of corn, more than 550 hectares of tobacco, more than 4,400 hectares of rice...
Mr. Vo Tan Truc, Head of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Krong Bong district, said that up to now, the whole district has harvested about 70% of the total crop area. Thanks to the people's proactive conversion to new drought-resistant and pest-resistant crop varieties; synchronous application of scientific and technical advances in production, the productivity and value of all crops are high. As the end of the season approaches, the agricultural sector recommends that people need to focus all resources on harvesting to ensure timely planting of the next crop. At the same time, flexibly switch to growing other short-term crops that require less irrigation water such as green beans, sugarcane, cassava, taro, sweet potatoes, etc. to minimize risks and increase income.
According to the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Krong Ana district, in the 2024-2025 winter-spring rice crop, the whole district planted 5,886 hectares of rice. This year, people entered the harvest season later than in previous years, and have now harvested 1,974 hectares, with an average yield of 77.3 quintals/ha.
Binh Hoa Commune is one of the key rice growing areas in Krong Ana District with an area of over 1,920 hectares. Chairman of the Farmers' Association of Binh Hoa Commune, Le Dinh Tu, said that 80% of the commune's area is planted with high-quality rice varieties such as ST24, ST25, the rest are Dai Thom 8, OM5451... in low-lying areas (for early harvest to avoid floods). The whole commune has currently harvested about 30% of the area, which is purchased by traders at a price of 10,500 - 11,000 VND/kg of fresh rice. In addition to the winter-spring rice areas being harvested, the remaining rice fields in the commune are in the ripening stage, preparing to be harvested simultaneously.

The harvested rice only needs to be transported to the main road and there will be traders to buy it at 10,500 VND/kg of fresh rice without having to find an outlet. With this price, after deducting expenses, Mr. Tam's family earned a high profit of about 450 million VND.
In some fields of Ea Na commune, harvesters are also operating continuously. Mr. Vu Huu Thoan (Quynh Ngoc 2 village, Ea Na commune) is harvesting 3.5 hectares of ST24 rice. Mr. Thoan said that this year the weather is stable so the rice yield is 11 - 12 tons of fresh rice/ha. His family's rice is purchased directly by traders at the fields without drying.
