On the afternoon of October 19, the organizing committee of the 33rd SEA Games men's football held a draw ceremony to divide the groups for the 10 participating teams in Bangkok (Thailand), in which the U.23 Vietnam team is in group B with Malaysia and Laos.

The 33rd SEA Games men's football event in Thailand in December this year has a major change in the competition format, when the participating teams will be divided into 3 groups, instead of 2 groups as before. This is to reduce the density of the competition, an average of 2 days/1 match, while the teams are only allowed to register 20 players, leading to overload.

At the last minute, the Timor Leste team convinced the Southeast Asian Football Federation (AFF) to register to participate in the men's football event of the 33rd SEA Games, bringing the total number of teams to 10.

Accordingly, with 10 teams, they have been drawn into 3 groups based on 4 seed groups. In which, the host team U.23 Thailand is in group A with Cambodia and Timor Leste. Group B is U.23 Vietnam, Malaysia and Laos. Group C has 4 teams including U.23 Indonesia, Myanmar, Philippines and Singapore.

According to the organizing committee of the 33rd SEA Games men's football, the group stage matches will be held at the Chiang Mai 700th Anniversary Stadium in Chiang Mai province. The semi-finals and finals will be held at the Rajamangala Stadium in Bangkok.

The teams will compete in a round robin format, with the top team in each group and the best second-placed team advancing to the semi-finals. The 33rd SEA Games men's football event will take place from December 3 to 18.

How are the Vietnam women's team and futsal drawn?

In women's football , there are a total of 8 participating teams, the Vietnamese women's team is in group B with Myanmar, Philippines and Malaysia. The host women's team Thailand is in group A with Cambodia, Singapore and Indonesia.

The group stage of women's football at the 33rd SEA Games will take place from December 4 to 11, with all matches taking place at Chonburi Club Stadium and IPE Chonburi Stadium, both in Chonburi Province. The semi-finals and finals will take place from December 14 to 17.

Meanwhile, in the men's futsal event , there are 5 teams participating, competing in a round robin, the team with the highest score will win the gold medal. The 5 participating teams include Vietnam, Thailand, Indonesia, Myanmar and Malaysia.

In women's futsal , with 6 participating teams, divided into 2 groups: Group A is Thailand (host), Malaysia, Philippines; Group B: Vietnam, Myanmar, Indonesia.
