US President-elect Donald Trump announced on November 12 that he has chosen former Director of National Intelligence John Ratcliffe for the position of Director of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) in the next administration.
Mr. John Ratcliffe is a close ally of US President-elect Donald Trump.
"I look forward to nominating John Ratcliffe to become the first person to lead both of America's top intelligence agencies," NBC News quoted Donald Trump's announcement.
Ratcliffe became Director of National Intelligence (DNI) at the end of Donald Trump’s first term in office. He was confirmed by the Senate in May 2020, with only eight months left in Trump’s term.
As DNI, Mr. Ratcliffe has been accused by Democrats and former intelligence officials of being a “tool” for Mr. Trump and his Republican allies to attack political opponents, including Mr. Joe Biden. Mr. Ratcliffe’s office has denied the accusation.
Also on November 12, President-elect Trump announced his choice of former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee as US Ambassador to Israel and real estate investor Steve Witkoff as US Special Envoy to the Middle East.
Other cabinet positions chosen by Mr. Trump when he officially returns to the White House in January 2024 include Senator Marco Rubio as US Secretary of State, Congressman Mike Waltz as National Security Advisor, Congressman Elise Stefanik as US Ambassador to the United Nations and Ms. Susie Wiles as White House Chief of Staff.
Several sources familiar with the matter said that Mr. Trump has chosen South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem to be the next secretary of the Department of Homeland Security.
