On September 15, a suspect fired several shots at Donald Trump while the Republican presidential candidate was playing golf at his golf course in West Palm Beach, Florida. Trump later said he was safe. "There were multiple shots fired in the area near me, but before the rumors get out of hand, I want you to hear this first: I am safe and well!" - Trump sent a message to his supporters via email on the same day. The former US president emphasized: "Nothing can stop me. I will never surrender! I will always love you for supporting me". Donald Trump also called for unity and "making America great again". Republican Senator Lindsey Graham said Trump was in "good spirits" after returning to Mar-a-Lago, his nearby villa in Palm Beach, after the incident. "I just spoke to Mr. Trump. He is one of the strongest people I have ever known. He is in good spirits and more determined than ever to save our country," Graham posted on X. Speaking to reporters, Palm Beach County Sheriff Ric Bradshaw said the suspect opened fire 365-457m away from Mr. Trump and fired at least four times at around 1:30 p.m. on September 15 (local time). According to sources, the shots were fired from outside the golf course fence. Mr. Trump's son cited local law enforcement as saying they had discovered an AK-47 in the bushes. The suspect was arrested after fleeing in a car. The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) said they were "investigating what appears to be an assassination attempt" on Mr. Trump. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis also announced that his state would conduct "its own investigation regarding the assassination attempt" on former President Trump. In July, Mr. Trump suffered an assassination attempt during a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.
