The canals of Dong Hai commune, Duyen Hai district are all covered with mangrove forests.
Accordingly, domestic and international organizations have been invited to invest in developing, caring for and protecting forests in the province; thereby, 50.5 hectares of new forests have been planted, exceeding 1% of the plan; 122.5 hectares have been cared for, exceeding 5.61%; 3,349 hectares of forests have been contracted for protection, reaching 95.95% of the plan. Thanks to that, by the end of 2023, the province's forest coverage rate will reach 4.15%.
However, in 2023, due to the impact of high tides combined with big waves, more than 31 hectares of protective forests were eroded in Dong Hai commune, Duyen Hai district (9.36 hectares); Hiep Thanh commune; Truong Long Hoa commune, Duyen town (0.096 hectares); Long Hoa commune, Chau Thanh district (17.39 hectares).
In order to continue promoting the effectiveness of forests; at the same time, implementing Plan No. 45-KH/TU, dated May 5, 2017 of the Provincial Party Standing Committee on implementing Directive No. 13-CT/TW, dated January 12, 2017 of the Central Party Secretariat on strengthening the Party's leadership in forest management, protection and development; Directive No. 38-CT/TU, dated August 2, 2018 of the Provincial Party Standing Committee on strengthening the planting, management and protection of scattered forest trees in the province... The Department of Agriculture and Rural Development sets a target of striving for 2024, the whole province will plant 150 hectares of new forest.
In parallel with implementing the new planting target, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development strengthens management, strictly protects existing forest areas, sustainably and effectively uses protective forests, focuses on planting coastal and riverside forests to prevent and combat landslides and protect, protect landscapes, ecological environment and conserve biodiversity.
Continue to allocate land and forests to households and communities for management, carry out forest fire prevention and control; encourage the leasing and contracting of forests for protection; support the planting of large-scale dispersed forest trees; promptly prevent violations of the Forestry Law. Enhance the capacity and responsibility of authorities at all levels in forest protection, especially at the grassroots level.
